Android Auto and Oreo Android 8.0 Not working (EDIT: workaround found)
Hey all! I upgraded my phone (LG G6) to Oreo and now my car doesn't recognize it via Android Auto. Before the update it worked fine. Now its as if I don't even have my phone plugged in. The projection icon never changes to the Android Auto icon, and starting Android Auto on the phone does nothing as well.
Bluetooth still works though. Anyone else having issues? If yours works what phone are you using? I did a search but there was only a single old thead about this earlier this year with people using the Beta of Oreo. No real info in the thread. Last edited by sonikk71; 07-06-2018 at 03:41 PM. |

After doing some research found a workaround! If you enable Developer Options and set Select USB Configuration to MTP it works. I haven't had a chance to do a ton of testing, but so far I was able to trigger android auto at start up with USB plugged in.
Looks like this is an Android issue and not LG or Chevy. Been seeing a bunch of different posts of people saying they are having the same issue on OREO regardless of automobile brand (so far reports of Hyundai, Ford and Chevy) or android phone. (Seen reports of Samsung G8, LG G6, and Motorola) If Android Auto hasn't worked for you in the past maybe give it a try. |

I had issues with my tmobile g6 when the blueborn Bluetooth patch came out, then they released a fix. So I guess I shouldn't update to 8.0, not sure there is anything even better about it. Thanks for the heads up.

Mine is T-Mobile also. After doing a little more testing the workaround I posted does indeed work fine, but you do have to enable developer options.

I have 8 on my Galaxy S8, AA works great in both of my GM vehicles, but BT playing music is a little flaky since the update. The artist and title of the song does not show up in My Link for awhile or gets stuck displaying the wrong song for a few mins, then switches when the song changes.

My Note 8 on 8.0 isn't having any issue. Coincidently, I do have developer mode enabled and MTP is set for the USB config. Since I turn on developer mode on all my Android phones, I can't say if that's the reason it's working.
This ability to tweak and fine tune settings is one of the reasons I'll never move away from Android. |

So more testing... While the workaround still works it inst 100% foolproof. It seems to work better if my phone is plugged in before I start my car.
Yesterday morning got in my car plugged my phone in and started it. The mylink started playing the radio station i was listening to when I shut my car off the night before. I went to turn down the volume and nothing. The radio was completely unresponsive/soft locked. The screen was displaying what it should but it also would not take touchscreen input. I tried holding down the power button and got nothing. The radio was playing but the the stereo would not accept any input. I was already driving by this point so I just left it alone and about 2 mins seconds later the screen went black and the headunit rebooted. It came up as expect, I saw the mylink screen etc. All was fine after that. I have also had a couple random disconnections even when it is working. Doing more research looks like we arent the only ones having issues. Found this thread on the Android Auto Forums. https://productforums.google.com/for...g6%7Csort:date |
