Favorite tire shop wants $55 to learn TPMS on M228's! Need TPMS Tool.

What I am looking for is confirmation from several people that the EL-50448 worked for enabling their TPMS, both the stock GM and the 08002HP sensors, as I am looking for a tool that will work with both.

So after buying new 20" M228's and tires online, I took my car to my local tire shop, who I have bought several sets of tires, and other service from over the past 20 years. Guess who just lost the business of my other 3 cars forever...

I just wanted to get the new TPMS activated, and they told me $55, and leave the car for a few hours. I said hasta lay bye bye and split.

I am keeping my factory redline 21's for summer use (when the 21" pzero's are available again), and using the 20's with all season tires for winter. So I plan on swapping back and forth, but going to the tire shop twice a year for TPMS learning is too much wasted time and money.

So I have been searching online and found a relearn tool EL-50448 for $45 bones, but I have read lots of reports claiming that tool did not work for their Camaro.

I have a 2013 SS. I do not know what the stock TPMS brand is, but the new M228's came with Uni-Sensor Gray 08002HP 315MHz sensors.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

Interested as well. I've been quoted up to $75/80 dollars for this also. Then I found a Americas tire that does it free here locally and takes all of five minutes to do so but then again can't rely on that.

I own this tool, but when I picked it up from Amazon a couple of years ago it was only $65

https://www.amazon.com/Tire-Pressure...s+relearn+tool

And it looks like the same tool you found for $45. This tool works on my 08 Impala, my 2013 Camaro (stock and aftermarket TPMS sensors), and my Father's 06 Monte Carlo and his 15 GMC Terrain.

Get the tool, then you can do any sensors you ever have for your GM rides, plus anyone you know that needs it. Ebay has them for $50. For some reason the same ones are $80 on Amazon.

I have that tool and it wasn't strong enough to work for my Niche wheels. The TPMS is on the back side but centered in the tire (if that makes sense).
I went to a GMC/Cadilac dealer and they set mine for free.

Try a dealer some charge 5-10 bucks for this service

Maybe im not getting something but why not purchase after market TPMS for your M228 wheels? it should pay for itself with your first exchange of wheels considering you need to take your 2 sets to the shop and pay to do the transfer and installation/ maybe even re balancing etc. thats adds up.

OK, I decided to buy the $45 tool, as it says it will work with a 2013 camaro. The TPMS sensors that I bought with my M228's are supposed to be compatible with GM, so lets see if this tool triggers these aftermarket TPMS sensors.

Okay, my 2016 Cruze said the same. I put a piece of paper, free, in my glove box and record the tire location. Wow it's so hard, and the dealer can't take my money either on the "free oil changes".

aftermarket sensors would be programmed bt the 5th gen camaro and even the 6th gen needs to have that tpms relearn reset its just how the cars are they dont auto sync.

So I got my TPMS tool in the mail yesterday, got a new 9V battery for it today after work, and it took less that 1 full minute to program all 4 tires!

I popped in the battery and pressed the transmit button, and the tool had flashing lights. I set the safety brake on (don't know if I needed to or not but I read it somewhere so I did), turned on the ignition, looked at the DIC as it was displaying tire pressure system error and pressed the end button to go into learn mode, then pressed the select button to select Yes Relearn, then the horn honked a couple times. I'm into the game a full 30 seconds now.

I jump out, touch the learn tool antenna on the driver front valve stem and press the TX button, it honks, I run to the passenger front tire and touch the learn tool to the next valve, it honks, passenger rear, then driver rear, and after the honk, I look at the DIC and all 4 tires are reading now. The fronts read 35 cold and the rears read 38 cold, the way the tires came shipped.

Almost 1 full minute spent total. My local tire shop could have kept my business if they would have ran on out there for 1 minute's work and asked for a 20 spot, but they must be too proud. (there were 3 of the service guys just hanging out and no customers at all) I have purchased several sets of tires from them, dozens of oil changes, a couple alignments, other services over the past 20 years, and a full set of bushing replacement.
