Elite Engineering Catch Can

A minor mod I know; but just to share my install.

Gotta say, my experience with Elite Engineering has been nothing short of excellent. Here in Australia there are very few camaros, so not a lot of gear specifically for them or expertise on the LT's, and I don't have much real prior knowledge of DI motors. After having a Whipple SC installed about 6,000miles ago, I asked Whipple by email if they recommended a catch can for my installation. Their response was that its not absolutely required, but definitely a good addition.

I then did some 'google research' and asked some questions here .... and realised that a dual outlet ported can would be better with boost. Other than McNally and Elite I couldn't find another suitable option. I emailed both and in fairness both came back to me within maybe 24 - 48 hours.

But I went with Elite because they had quicker/cheaper shipping, better pricing for my use and I have to say, exceptional responsiveness to my email questions. Plus I could get all I needed eg check valves etc in one order. But I'd have also been happy to buy the McNally unit.

Elite were very responsive (before and after I ordered), the kit arrived perhaps 2 weeks after I ordered it, very nice & well built product. The only thing I'd say is, there should be some basic instructions for those who don't know how to route these/where to connect (I had no issues but some might get confused esp. With a SC use). A single sheet of paper, 6 or 8 dot points and half a dozen photos are all that's needed. I'll do one for you if you like Elite

Good stuff! After a few thousand miles you should pull the top off the blower and see if there is any oil on it. Same thing with the intake elbow.

Had to take of the intake as part of that install. Totally clean & dry; however there was a little build up on the throttle flap which I cleaned off.

Next mod is to get yourself a larger intercooler filler tank on there, I doubt you're getting all the air out of your intercoolers with that setup. You want the reservoir (and water level) above the intercoolers if at all possible - maybe switch to something like this:

Thanks Mike for your suggestion ... I'll have to check it out. Having said that, I have zero problems with engine temp but I assume you're suggesting IATs are hotter than they should be?? Also, given the height of the blower, directly below the hood, how would I get the tank higher than that?

Mike,

The Whipple comes with a 2 gallon intercooler reservoir that mounts to the crash bar behind the front bumper cover. The little “reservoir” you see is only the filler neck and pressure cap. It’s actually not too bad in terms of getting the air out of it.

As long as you can make sure the coolers are air-free then it should be fine. The Z06 has the same configuration from the factory (small filler and gallon tank low in front) which is fine if you always vacuum fill it, but it can be difficult to get it purged otherwise.

Agree 100%, vacuum fill is the way to go. I swear it took me a dozen drives, wait for cool down, the top off again to get all the air out after this past round of mods. The air works it’s way out, but it definitely takes time. Vacuum setup is definitely happening next time.

What did you pay for the elite? I've been trying to get pricing from them for a week and can't get it.

Its all on their website, depending on what can, fittings, hoses etc. I had delivery to Australia also, so I think about $300 USD or so plus postage

Does it connect to that port next to the blower like that one that uses a bottle I’ve seen?

It's designed for all cooling systems, it's a cap that screws on the top of the reservoir, then uses compressed air evacuate the system, and the vacuum then fills the system. It works good, but I've found it easier to just mount a high reservoir that can purge and fill as the pump is running.
