Window reprogram after battery disconnect

Tinkering with the car (pulling interior to fix rattles type stuff) I've noticed after disconnecting the battery I have to reprogram the windows. Not a big deal. Something I've encountered 3 or 4 times.

What's the purpose or reasoning behind that?

I think because the windows index when you open and close the doors, the computer needs to know where the windows are. After a battery disconnect it has no idea state of window location. At least that's what I remember from 5th gen days. Had to do same process. Pretty sure it's the same for 6th gens.

i’ve disconnected the battery several times and never had to do anything like that. windows up, down, doesn’t matter.

It must have something to do with time. Every time I've had it disconnected for a few hours it does this, but not for just a few mins here and there.

ive had mine disconnected from 30 minutes to 5 days. the windows were always 100% up or 100% down. i can’t imagine the car doesn’t know where the windows are.

I've had to do it each time I disconnect the battery for winter storage. It's super easy, all the way down then all the way up. Done.

I figured it out.

Pg 50 of the owners manual. Derp..

It's called reindexing. Indexing is when the window rolls down an inch when you open the door and then goes up when you shut it. So after 15 mins post battery disconnect the system has to reindex the windows.

When you get back in the vehicle it tells you on the dash to roll driver window down and then all the way back up. Then it follows by asking you to do the same with the driver side. When complete it will say window progamming successful.
