I hope my car doesn't do this, and it won't be driven in rain much being that is isn't going to be my daily driver, but in FL I need to run the a/c a lot. Thankfully I am tall and it shouldn't be in my sight line. I need to ask my buddy in SC who has a '16 SS that he daily drives if he has this issue, as he has not mentioned it to me...

It will do it, especially in Florida. For some asinine reason it's how the car is designed.

To contribute my weekly update, this evening I am testing using a thick microfiber towel. I took the time to carefully fold it in half and wedge it in-between the glass and dashboard so it won't move, and it covers the whole vent. It doesn't look that bad either. Gauging whether material like a thick microfiber towel or something like foam absorb/block the air flow better before working on designing something more permanent.

Folks, we bought and own these affected cars and I imagine most of us don't have the financial flexibility to eat the depreciation and get something else any time soon (if you do, kudos!), so it's time to create a fix ourselves.

I know, it sucks, we spent $25-50k only to find out that we have to choose between comfort OR safety. Believe me, had I even remotely anticipated that my Camaro would have spent 6 1/2 weeks at the dealership during my first 8 weeks of ownership, to correct FIVE separate issues, I would have a set of keys to something else. But dang it if I didn't get a big stupid grin on my face when I finally got my car back earlier today, because despite all that has gone on, I STILL LOVE THIS CAR.

At this point, you can either pout and wait on GM to realize people actually live in warm and humid climates and implement a fix, or you can sack the eff up, accept the situation for what it is, and fix the damn thing so you and/or your own FAMILY aren't flipping put in a dangerous situation by simply driving this car.

Yeah I got the same canned response that totally mis-characterizes the symptoms. And I sincerely hope we get an official response to the questions about NHTSA specs and verification testing. It's a big fat cop-out thus far.

IMHO this is nothing more than a software update, and it's a damn shame people are going to have to go on a social media blitz to try and get GM to spend a couple hours coming up with a code fix for a car that should be smart enough to know what environment it is driving in. Any moron knows that you could fog your window on max ac, that is not what we're complaining about.

I don't think this one is settled by any means and the internet remembers a long time. Come on GM, is this really that hard to fix for those who care about it? All these surveys that say you care, clearly you don't. I am so glad I have not wasted any time letting any dealer look at this problem...

Excessively fogging windshields

Just to think I paid 50k+ for my fog machine.

Update: spent about 50 minutes driving this evening with the thick microfiber towel covering the defrost vent. I meat-lockered the car and had ZERO fog. Nada. Suggest picking up a thick microfiber towel (I got mine at MicrofiberTech.com), fold it in half (either into a rectangle or triangle), and tuck it up between the windshield and dashboard to keep it in place while covering the vent.

Been doing that with one I got from Becky, till I get some neoprene cut to shape, and I can second this. No fog up.

I'm surprised a vendor hasn't taken the opportunity to create something and sell it lol, captive audience here!

NHTSA Specifications simply means:

- Is there something blocking your vision? Yes
- Is it easily removed by using your wipers or defrost? Yes

No issue...

A "No" answer to the second line would prompt an investigation.

It's not like they're out there running environmental tests on every car/truck model...

As widely varied as the fogging issue is, even in areas of the same climate, it points to a quality issue, not design. Anyone with a really bad one go to a dealer and drive another of the same model car to compare? I'm in the camp that this is a supplier process variation issue...

Guys, I made this thread....please take a second to vote.

This will give us a better idea as a whole, how big, or small this issue is.

I am trying to keep it simple..no need for the percentage of how much it fogs up. Either it does, or doesn't...

Then you are going to artificially inflate the fogging numbers because anyone with a tiny little patch of fog (like on EVERY CAR or TRUCK in certain climate conditions) will have to say yes...

You can bias your survey the way you want to satisfy your agenda, but I'm not participating. I have a small amount of fogging (pictures in this thread) but seems perfectly normal to me...

My agenda? I don't have an agenda, I don't even have my car yet as I clearly said. So YOU seem to be the one with an agenda...I could care less if you vote or not, I was doing it to help the forum, not to satisfy you. If someone has a tiny spot of fogging, they should be smart enough to know what is "normal" or not and vote accordingly.

And you sound like a GM apologist. This is not a quality issue. There have been multiple posts from people who have seen the issue in every car they have test drove. You can not ignore the fact that the HVAC system is blowing cold air out a defrost vent and causing condensation on the outside of the vehicle. It is the direct cause of the issue. The HVAC system should not be doing that unless set to Defrost. Even with air manually put on the floor vents, cold air is still coming out of the dash defrost vent. It may not pose a real safety issue based on those criteria you mentioned, but it doesn't happen in the competition...that should be all the justification needed to call it a defect in design.

Personally the canned response from GM was offensive. Turn up the temp or turn off the A/C?? My A/C can be set within 4 degrees of ambient air temp and condensation forms. 75 degrees on the HVAC is not cold, hell that's too warm for most. So obviously GM engineers haven't drove the car in any climate south of Michigan. Because running wipers constantly with the ambient temp being 80 degrees with 90% humidity with my HVAC set at 75 is an unacceptable fix.
