Magnuson 2300 canned or custom tune with lt1 fuel system

Hey all,

I have a bone stock 17' ss 1le. I daily drive the car at this point. I've wanted to supercharge the car since buying it. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a magnuson 2300. I've done alot of research on this forum before setting what I consider realistic power goals from this upgrade. Id like to hang right around 550whp.

I know the lt1's fuel system would limit the boost to right out the box. I fully intend to build the car further just not while i'm utilizing it as a daily driver.

My question is knowing my power goal around 550whp does it make more sense to just buy hp tuners or other tuner and load the canned magnuson tune or spring for a remote tuning package?

You certainly won't regret the Maggie. I ended up getting a custom tune from Ted Jannetty and the car puts down ~560 rwhp and ~540 rwtq at 7.5 psi of boost, with zero drivability issues. Not sure how well the canned tune would've worked, given I also have a Roto-Fab (and now a 95 mm throttle body).

The 2300 is a great choice, giving you a fair power level for the street that is safe for the LT1 without upgrading internals.

If you have Ted tune your car or another tuner you'll need HP Tuners. You'll have to be able to load a tune from whom ever it is and also need to do some logging to make sure its all good. Buy the MPVi2, don't get the canned tune if you plan other mods in the spring. they are always a little rich. Ted's probably done more Maggie remote tunes on the forum then any tuner. I would also get a Roto Fab when you purchase the 2300. You'll make some more power and since you getting a customer tune you'll be well on your way. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Call Ted Jannetty I believe he can remote tune those or at least get you a good tune.

Yea I'm a little worried about the canned tune.
What size pulley did you end up with to run 7.5psi? 95mm?
Did you do all of your upgrades at the same time?

I have Rotofab with my 2300
Vengeance racing tuned my car
550/541 car drives great but I'm at the limit of the LT1 fuel system
1LE's have some LT4 fuel parts so your ceiling should be higher than mine

Before you order speak with the guys at Magnuson and see if you can get a slightly smaller pulley and tune

Guys, I'm diggin this thread. Both of you are from Atlanta and I'm over here in Lawrenceville. I believe the only LT4 part is the low pressure side pump. In fact, if you order the Jannetty fuel upgrade kit, you can specify 1LE and it takes that pump off to save a few bucks. Do you mind commenting on your experience at Vengeance? Do they mind if you do your own work and go over there for tuning only? Maybe purchase the parts from them? Just wondering, I know they are close. I read everything I can that Ted Jannetty posts and he is awsome. He provides a great deal of advice on the forums. I was just thinking it may be good to have someone local.

Yes, it's the stock 95mm pulley.

I got the supercharger plus the intake and the voltage booster first, then the LT5 throttle body in a second step with a retune. The dyno numbers I quoted were produced with the LT5 throttle body.

They won't offer that because if a smaller pulley is added with a Magnuson tune it won't pass Carb and they won't risk loosing carb cert for a sale with a smaller pulley and a Canned tune. It won't happen. How do I know? Well lets just say I worked there and we had customers ask that all the time. Get a custom tune or get a canned tune with no mods, just the blower

I appreciate all you guy responses, just looking at cost vs reward... giving me more to think about, had been thinking about a rotofab already, if I get a custom tune I would likely go with a 95mm pulley... like you guys mentioned id want to consult ted/magnuson before going a

My original thought was save some $$$ going with just the supercharger and canned tune instead of spending the extra money for the custom tune. Seems like running 7.5psi boost pressure will be the incentive for a custom tune.

Side note: I was kickin around the idea of letting vengeance tune my car too, I really couldn't find alot of information about them tuning direct injection engines... im interested in your experience to asthmamax11.

@laynlo15 I think I read where you had a 2300 and you guys made several changes and tunes? Any opinion on pulley differences between a 98mm and 95mm in this case?

As far as doing that 2300 with the canned Magnuson tune, my opinion is, don't do it. I have seen an SS with the Magnuson canned tune and the 2300 blower and it was pretty weak. Dragstrip performance was weak and dyno test was only in the 480s. Not even close to your 550whp expectation in other words. Seems to me that you would need to get a custom tune done or you could be in for some disappointment.

+1 for this. I got the Maggie 2300 with the canned tune. I'm at 508hp 506tq. I'm not that happy. Going back for a rotofab, smaller pulley, and a tune.

My tune is from Ted Jannetty and the car made ~560 rwhp / ~540 rwtq with safe timings, so clearly there is a lot left on your table.
