Rock guards? How much have they helped you?
Hi pals,
I have about 6k Miles on my '18 SS and the fender area in front of my rear tires is already riddled with rock chips. I just went to a body shop and got a quote for a full paint correction and clear bra install. However I'm going to have to do something to try to reduce the amount of rocks im having flung back from the front tires or I'm just going to end up in the same place again. Have any of you installed front rock guards, and what level of success have you had with them? |

It should be factory option or standard feature considering how many rocks get tossed up even with conventional, non-ZLE type tires.

Ground effects/side flares/or whatever you call them is an option. Mine has them and no rock chips at all.

I had the ZL1 Addon rock guards, still got a TON of rocks hitting in front of the rear wheel.
Luckily, I put on PPF when the car was new, now after 1 year and 9000 miles the PPF is in really bad shape. I just replaced the PPF and installed ACS side skirts and front rock guards, but what I'm going to do in addition is put a patch of matte-PPF over the regular PPF just in front of the rear wheels so it has a double-layer and the damage to the PPF won't be as noticeable since it's matte.

I bought my 2017 2SS with around 7000km on the odometer. She didn’t have rock guards and had many rock chips. I put the rock guards on, got the damage repaired and didn’t get another. When I traded her for my current Camaro I put the rock guards on at 3km... no chips yet. In both instances I purchased the deluxe ZL1 rock guards, great product.

Like most have said, I also bought the Addons. I've got 8k miles with only one rock chip in front of the rear wheel. For me, they work great.

With the 1LE and 295s in the front, they are a must.

I have the RPI Designs premium rock guards that look very similar and offer practically the same level of protection as the ZL1 Addons product. No side skirts, however (getting into and out of the car without them is already near the edge of my comfort zone).
These guards are essential, they block I'd say about 80-90% of small rocks and pebbles. I shared in another thread that I accidentally lost one of the guards, drove about 25 miles without it before I noticed and that side now has more tiny white rock chips and scratches. Essential as these guards are, there will still be rocks hitting the rockers and quarter panels, so adding PPF is a good idea. GM does include a tiny piece of vinyl from the factory, and I don't understand why it doesn't cover a larger area, the cost difference would probably be in the single digit range...

I have the factory ones on my 1LE, they seem to do very little - I still have quite a few rock chips in front of the back wheels.
