1st Hood Rock Chip 3400 miles, Before Shot & After

Wet wiped dust off hood in shade & surprise, 1st rock chip on my hood. Approx 2/3rd down inside of driver 1/2. Grr 3,400 miles, never been on highway.

A fellow member here asked me to do before and after.

Here is the scotch tape around each spot right up to the edges of chips. Be sure to fold over each piece for quick removal.

Shake up the touch up & get a piece of cardstock or index card to brush off most of paint, after scraping off paint on paint brush stick as you raise. The real trick is to paint a small amount to not have any raised bump and no visible tape edges.

Hyper Blue is a two stage paint job, white under metallic blue. Each chip reveals the white paint underneath that shows up a lot on a blue car.

For this thread I used painters tape to box the area so you can see the after.

And now after scotch tape was taken off (quickly)

White paint gone! Voila!

Nicely done. You did that very close to the way I was taught years ago by a detailer/paint correction guy. Less is more when it comes to touch up paint for a chip in your paint. 👍🏻

Thank you for this post. I've been putting mine off. Similar nick on my front bumper, only mine has a paint bump which require a little sanding as well. I might get up enough nerve to give it a go next weekend.

Good job. I prefer this method too over some others, such as: slather paint all over the place and wipe off with some special remover... hoping for the best. Less is more.

Excellent job... I got a chip on my door of all places yesterday. I'm super bummed but this may help cheer me up.

Wow, that was some shot. How happy are you that you had that wrap on!

Very nice write-up 18LTLoveIt! Should help a lot of people.

Just so you guys can feel better about the small rock chips you pick up driving around, here's what I got on my 2016 2SS on the way to work one morning. Bounced up off the road, hit the front, then over the cab and out of sight, no idea what it was. Just about dead center in the photo. Had it professionally fixed.

Awesome, I'm going to use this guide to fix two similar chips about two inches apart I recently discovered under my driver's side fender emblem.

No need for tape or a brush if you use one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The tips of them are tiny, so they fit almost perfectly in any small rock chip. Bigger ones you just apply paint and dab the chipped area until you fill it with paint. Wait a few seconds and wipe of any excess with a rubber gloved finger.
