New Camaro Dash kit

So I have been planning an technology upgrade this summer, New head unit, Kenwood DDX9705S, front and rear view cameras, and as most people here, a PAC Dash Kit.

Well today I was just surfing the intranets and found this, apparently due for release tomorrow by idatalink.

https://maestro.idatalink.com/access...929/project/rr

They also, finally, have Maestro RR support for the Gen 5 that allows you to modify vehicle settings and have climate control on the head unit.

Looks like the PAC unit has finally found a challenger. I am hoping to see a few reviews on youtube before I make my purchase in a few months.

Edit: and on a side note, it looks a lot beeter then all the other dash kits out there. In my opinion

I remember seeing something about this awhile ago. I would have to see it installed though before I pass final judgement.

Another device that uses the obd2 port...

Unless it’s pass through, I can’t use it...

Reading the specs on the maestro site. If your HU supports it, it will allow you to read and clear codes.

I've seen OBDII splitters, not sure if they work though

The problem with splitters is the communication is 'serial' and does not split well -- trust me, I've tried and its not 'pretty'.

I'm waiting to see if anything better comes. I have the Gen5 MyLink and outside of the nav, its been 'ok'. Nav is just -- well bad.

Not able to update is just crazy -- even for 2013 version (which I have).

When we get on that works well with the 'wheel' controls, I'll consider changing...

It's definitely nice to see another kit when the 5th gen Camaro has limited options, but I don't think it's better than the PAC unit. Nothing beats keeping the stock HVAC controls. In any car with physical and software controls, I will always go for physical.

Sounds interesting, but I'm having a hard time visualizing what that'd be. Sounds like a floating screen that rests above a single-DIN. Not sure how that would work out in our cars without blocking stuff, unless they make a totally custom head unit enclosure again. One of the slight trade-offs with the existing PAC RPK5-GM4101 units is they are a bit cramped and the head unit sits a bit low (this is realistically the only place it'd fit due to clearances), so if they had the screen float, it could sit further up in the console.

Even the original hvac controls are electronic even though they feel mechanical. Plus, if you look closely, you will see the top row of buttons has fan and rear defrost cotrols. What I don't like about the PAC unit is that you can't change vehicle settings without hooking up a laptop. What I hate about the 3 current options is the sunken look. As far as quality goes, I believe that maestro products have a pretty good track record.

I had spoke to pac, they confirmed not a floating kit. Which is nice because the floating screen idea is garbage imho.

I just gave ADS a quick call. It will be released in the US by end of May. MSRP will be $249.99, plus the RR module. RR MSRP is $189.99 but most places sell it for 149.99. So at full MSRP we looking at $440. At retail, with coupon codes, maybe $350.

To me, if it's all as advertised, it's worth it.
