22 lt1 oil change still low

Hello all. Just changed the oil in the car and put 10 qts in. Let sit overnight checked and it’s just barely on the cross hatch section. Car is level where checking. I don’t want to put more in anybody have something similar happen? Last time I changed the oil it showed almost all the way up so this seems kinda weird

This seems to come up every other week. Since the spec calls for 10.0 quarts, something odd must be going on. We can assume that the oil pans are all the same. So it's either got to be technique, or the dipsticks are different lengths. Mine takes exactly 10 quarts to bring it to the full indicator.

Damn more confusion lol. I’ll leave it be as long as I see oil on the cross hatch I guess

I've always filled to the top of the cross-hatched area, never taken more than 10.0 quarts... I would fill until you are at/very near the top of the cross-hatched area... DO NOT over fill...

I hate these dipsticks. As far as I can tell, 10qt got mine to full. I had a 2013 Silverado and the required amount only got to 1/2 - 3/4. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are in the cross hatch area you are good. The owner's manual states this. Oil will expand when hot.

Don't overthink it.

Same here and the level has not changed after 4k miles of driving.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, you're overthinking it. I've added half a quart over the full mark before by accident and tracked my car with it, 0 issues. Anywhere along the hashmark is good. If you want to add more then add half a quart and see where it puts you.

If you aren't tracking the car, then I agree with Christian and anywhere on the hash marks is fine.

If you are going to be to tracking the car, then you want the oil near the top of the hash marks.

Why?

Because the car is capable of generating high lateral G loads that make the oil want to slosh to one side of oil pan and potentially starve the oil uptake tube for the oil pump. We don't have a dry sump like the Vette, so the only solution (in addition to baffles in the pan) is to have the oil level be as high as possible in the pan so that when it sloshes away from the intake tube, there is still enough remaining.

Also, I check both sides of the dipstick and choose the highest of the two, yes there is quite a difference.

my 22’ lt1 has the same issue, 10 fresh quarts of 0w40 go in and barley read on the tip of the dipstick, no where near the hash marks. My manual suggests adding an entire quart!
