I want to do full interior speaker swaps and maybe subs later, I hope to see someone do this soon...im a giant snob about music quality particularly since rock is my forte, and I like it LOUD.

Soooo it's definitely not behind the rear passenger seat speaker panel. Anybody actually lay their eyes on the 1LE amp yet??

I've seen a few threads mentioning this, but am just curious if anyone has actually located the amp in a 1LE yet.

It is not behind the passenger rear panel as I first thought. That was incorrectly told to another member by the parts department at his local dealer. As far as I know, no one has found a separate amp.

I had a service writer look it up for me. The SS 1LE specifically doesn't have a separate amp, like we deduced. It just has the 8" display and the "receiver", which is located fore of the glove box. Here's a drawing I was given, the perspective is looking from the front towards the aft of the car.

I was also told there isn't the ANC in the SS 1LE, due to the lack of a normal amplifier, however the wire colors going to the speakers is still the Blue+ & Brown/Blue-, and Yellow+ & Yellow/Black- for the front speakers. Sourcing from the rear speakers is an unknown and might not be full-range. Use at your own risk obviously.

Based on my searching in my own car it appears the easiest way to tap into the front channel high-level signal is at the bulkhead connectors behind the footwell kick-panel trim. It's not easy to get to, and you'll have to cut factory wires to splice in an external amplifier.

I hope this helps.

I just finish swapping mine to a full kenwood excelon setup, using an LC7i to convert the factory stereo signals and ran all new wire from the dash to the trunk to hook up the lc7i and a Kenwood 900-5, 5ch amp. Kenwood components in the doors and GM specific oversized 6 1/4 for the rears with a 12" JL sub in a sealed enclosure. Now it hits hard, and the highs are crisp, nothing crazy, but for under $1k, it's perfect for me.

Did you have to cut wires, or was this some sort of harness converter?

If I worded this wrong bear with me, not very technical on this and simply want to convey imfo to my local stereo shop

Really good info here. Between this and the brake pads you are doing my homework for me. Thanks!

Does the 1LE also have the sound from the engine added to the signal? Seems like it would be difficult to disable if the only way to grab signal is at the speaker level.

The SS 1LE has no external amp, no rear deck speakers and no center dash speaker. That means there are no readily accessible speaker inputs in the trunk, and no premade adapters fit this setup.
I spliced into main stereo wiring in the dash, then ran new wire to the trunk to connect the audio control LC7i, it converts and creates rca outputs for the system amp to power the speakers. The factory speaker wiring was disconnected from the speakers and new wiring was run from the trunk to each location. I also added the acr-1 remote bass knob to the console from the LC7i.

I hope that helps.
