Another Front End Clunk story

I already posted this in another thread, but I figured I will make it a new thread if it possibly helps someone else.

After my last track day my front suspension started making a clunking sound. It only did it when one wheel goes over bumps, so I was 95% sure it was the sway bar end links. I live in the city now, so I don't really have a place to jack my car up, otherwise I would just do this myself. So I brought it to my chevy dealer. I told them to make sure the end links are all tight. They had it all day, and called me at the end of the day and said they need more time. Everything was tight.

In between this, I had some Eibach springs installed.

So I brought it back for day 2, they had it for another full 8 hours, could not figure out whats wrong. Then they said, it's most likely your Eibach's. I said, well uhh you guys had it last week before the Eibach's, same issue. Well we can't troubleshoot it any further with aftermarket springs on. So remove them and bring it back for a third day and we will have a GM tech come and look. At this point I gave up, ordered a set of BMR end links. My dad and I installed them this weekend.

Drivers side was tight, passenger side was loose. Those dudes at the dealer could have resolved it in 5 minutes.

I always scratch my head when guys complain about the dealer having issues with aftermarket parts. Those poor techs get paid pennies on the dollar and work on everything from ZL1's to Z06's, Volts, Traverses, etc. They don't get paid extra to theorize how a set of aftermarket springs could or couldn't affect the issue at hand. Should have taken it to Accelerated or Addiction instead. They would have figured it out immediately.

Fair points.

My ZL1 is at the dealer right for oil change...also having them check the end links again. Hopefully the find one was loose and can fix. If not, I'm going the BMR route.

If my end links get loose one more time, I'll probably just replace them like you did. I tightened mine twice until GM came out with the fix. My dealer applied the fix and they did stay tight longer, but eventually started clunking again. This time I just tightened the heck out of them and applied locktite. So far, so good...

Yeah I agree, but they had it for a full day in their shop before anything aftermarket was installed. So it's not like they were able to figure it anyways

If I wasn't able to figure it out myself, I was going to take it to one of those.

I think another good solution is the Nord-Lock washers. If for some reason the BMR's ever come loose, I'm ordering some Nord-Lock. I did lock-tite on everything too, so I'm sure it will be good.

Makes you wonder what the dealership did....put it up on a lift and just look at it while scratching their heads without checking anything?

seriously, I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if they just tried to wiggle it with their hands and see if it was loose? It looked tight until we put a wrench on it and it was loose. So who knows what they do.

Do you feel a great difference between those red and the OEM?

Same torque for the rear than we have to check for the front?
Any body has the rear loose?
