I drove a Hemi 392 and a 5.7 Challenger.

Both were 6 speeds. I didn't go far I just want to see how they pulled. First the 5.7 probably would compare with the Camaro 6 banger maybe a little quicker but sounds good. The 5.7 is pulling over 4k lbs of weight. Probably about 600 more than the 6 banger camaro. I never got a chance to wind them out so have no clue about top end, never got any of them beyond third gear and was nowhere near even winding out 3rd. The 392 has balls, can easily break the tires from a roll in both 1st and 2nd gears just like my camaro. The 392 and our camaros would be a good race. I rolled in 2nd gear and goosed it and the tires let go just like my SS does. Both seem like nice cars and look great as you know. One thing I noticed in both cars is the transmissions shifting does not seem as crisp and positive like our Camaros. I think they both also use the Tremec 6060 so I assume its the linkage not a tight as ours. This ends this review.😁

392’s are no joke, they just don’t corner very well.
Thanks for sharing!

The "40 rwhp" that the 392 holds over the SS 376 is a wash when you factor in the 500 lbs weight penalty on the challenger. SS is a faster and cheaper race car. Challenger is a more comfy grand tourer. Looks subjective, but I feel both are stylish in their own way.

I can confirm that the 5.7 Hemi Challenger/Charger is no faster than the 6th gen V6 Camaro. My friends 2017 5.7 Daytona is pretty much a drivers race against my 2018 V6. Those 5.7's do sound very good though

The 5.7 Chargers are fun cars to drive (for what they are). They sound great straight from the factory and are very practical. I agree they are not nearly as quick as the SS's or above. The interior and the (lack of) agility is where they lose me. The car is heavy and it acts like it. Much of the interior quality is reminiscent of FCA's typical garbage. The Camaro won't win any luxurious awards either, but it is a big step in comparison.

I'm sure that I would like the power of the 392, but maybe not so much the car. I've toyed with buying a 392 Charger in the past, but I've yet to drive one. I'll put it this way - if I did/do ever get into a Charger, the 5.7 would not be an option for me.

OK, I am not going to dispute anyone above me claims, but I have personally seen multiple bone stock 5.7 Challengers do 0-60 in mid 4 second range and very low 13s in the 1/4 mile.

Now I am not expert but I am betting that is a LOT faster than the v6 Camaro I drove. But I did not have any timing equipment.

Anyone have real v6 Camaro numbers?

I owned a 2018 Charger R/T 5.7 V8. It was my wife's daily for 2 years. Good car. I would have serious doubts of a V6 Camaro being as fast or faster. I have yet to drive a V6 Camaro, but, I know that 5.7 in the Charger was not that slow. It moved that big car very well.

Your numbers on the Challenger sound about correct to me. The Camaro (V6) I don't know as much about, but I would guess that to run around 5 seconds to low 5's? That ~.5 of a second is significant but I wouldn't call it a lot faster.. When it comes down to splitting hairs like that, it would really depend on the driver and/or the particular vehicles involved.

Yes! I think that is part of what makes it fun. You don't really expect that whale (pardon my French) to be able to get up and go like that. The smaller displacement motors have come a long way, in regards to the power and speed they are able to produce. (Finally, welcome to the game America. Other car manufacturers have been cranking power out of small motors for decades)

Yeah I have heard about 5.7s getting sub 5 second 0-60 times. The best I've seen for V6 Camaros (stock) are 5.1

I believe the 5.7s are still held back by traction since they come with 245 all season tires, the same as the V6 Camaro. Even though the 5.7s are heavier they still can't put the power down reliably on launch.

If they can get a good launch (or better tires) then they can get under 5 seconds. These are my observations after watching many Youtube videos

For my next car I'm very much considering a Charger or a Kia Stinger. (or a Cadillac CT4-V if I can swing for the price) I think I'm done with the coupe life.

I had 2 Camaros with the V6- an auto and a manual. A guy I work with had a 392 and he would go around me like I was standing still- and absolutely smoke me off the line, both from a stop. Owning and driving (2) V6 Camaros, I would think the 5.7 would smoke it as well. The V6 are great drivers cars, just lack torque down low and do not take off very fast from a start. The V6 manual is better with limited slip.

I have a C6 Corvette now and it is so much faster than the Camaros were off the line- despite on paper the Vette does 0-60 in a hefty 4.5, Camaros 5.1. It feels like a lot more gap, the Vette much quicker.

My buddy's 5.7 Daytona does spin pretty bad off the line, but even from a roll we are basically dead even. We've ran a few times from a roll up till about 120 mph, and it's just extremely close

I'm dying to try the Wrangler with that 392 in it.
