Here is a link to a thread I started back in 2009 chronicling my 2010 order status (complete with train times). For anyone wondering where the train times came from, at that time we could call the train company and request location data on the rail car. I'm pretty sure you can't do that now.

My car was built around this time in 2009. Who knows, maybe it will be close to this?

P.S. Kaizer_911, I suspect you'll have much interest in this since we live in the same state.
Oh snap, that was a neat read, thanks!

I may not have explained what I meant properly, my bad. I'm referring more to seeing when the first 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015 models started shipping after being produced. What month did the first of those cars reach their owners?

2010 models were the first of the 5th gens, so they had extra QC time. I do see that your car avoided some of the major holds and issues, lucky you! I believe the 2014's were the first of the 5th Gen refresh, so those also wouldn't be an accurate comparison due to extra QC hold times.

Oh, okay, I gotcha. I just couldn't resist the opportunity for a shameless self-plug.

Generally the following model year the first three weeks of production start shipping all within a few days of each other, which means some first week builds may be on the same hauler as some second or third week builds.

I have noticed one anomaly, when a first week second model year C7 was delivered before that time frame. Pictures of it in the buyers driveway were posted on the Corvette Forum. But over all, the three week time frame seems to be the general practice.

Laborsmith,

Thanks for all the help and insight. I greatly appreciate it. I was wondering about this info today. I kinda figured that's how it is. Was hoping otherwise but realistically figures it would run like this. This helps me plan my trip to Becky to her my Camaro better.

Thanks!

- Adam

I saw this too but I didn't completely understand the third part:

Maybe I'm kind of stupid?

The builds are insured from factory to dealer so someone has to determine their value.

Ahh ok. Hopefully they don't make this more difficult than it has to be. I'm assuming it will be less than MSRP, probably based on around what it actually costs them to build.

Thank you so much, Laborsmith. That's very informative and helpful.

I'm actually ok waiting if it takes longer, that would only give me more time to save up more that I can use for the down payment. My only concern is that if the car is delivered in the beginning of a month, I wouldn't have a Private Offer to use, and would need to figure out a way to stall until I can secure one.

So my salesman texted me to confirm that the car is set to be built tomorrow. However, he still doesn't have an MSRP for me.

It's a bit annoying. While I am aware of the ballpark range of what the price will be, I would still like to get an official price of my build. Is there a reason that Becky has the prices but almost no other dealership is able to get them? Would she be able to help me get the price of my car somehow?

Let us be clear so there is no room for misunderstanding: if Becky can access and post ANY info, pricing, specs, future plans, that info is available to every Chevrolet dealership located within the Fifty states that make up the United States.

The only exception I am aware of is there is no exception. None.

You are working with a dealer who either does not understand their own system or who plays the games that make car dealers so well loved throughout the country.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. On all of the work order bench printouts and info screens my salesman shows me, the pricing only shows "W/A" for "will announce" or something like that. Does this mean that there is another step or screen I should have my salesman look into, or is Becky just using the 2017 pricing info that was released and calculating an MSRP herself? Because that's what I did on my own to get my estimate.

I have already decided that if this dealership gives me any problems, I will happily tell them to shove it and go place an order through Becky that same day. It will be sad waiting an additional 6 weeks, but I only went with these guys because they were offering me $300 below employee pricing, not because I was willing to accept any other issues or hassles. So far, aside from the pricing annoyance, they have been good to me, so I hope that keeps up.

I'm in the same boat. I've crunched some numbers so I have an idea of where it should be.

I actually emailed Becky's thread to one dealer and they told me that is only preliminary pricing and that final pricing could be different. At any rate I'm going by her.

There is a huge difference between Becky, the three sales managers , and six or so sales reps I have dealt with.
  • The sales people have a job, Becky has a passion
  • The sales people know just enough to get the job done with the lay person, Becky knows everything start to finish and can support everyone including the enthusiast
  • The sales people know a little bit about several vehicles, Becky knows Camaro's and Corvette's
  • Sales people race home, Becky races Camaro's and Corvettes
  • Sales people sell, Becky provides customer service (even to those who are not customers)
  • Sales people work for an independent dealer, Becky is a Chevrolet ambassador
I could keep going - but in short, event though other dealers have the same tools, they don't know how to effectively leverage them to provide valuable customer services. A paint brush is only as good as the artist that wields it.
