SUV to tow Camaro
Even through our GMC Acadia can tow 4,000lbs, I don't trust it to tow my 3,948lbs Camaro.
The next step up for safely towing, I think would be a Tahoe. Any thoughts on ordering a Tahoe as a daily driver that would become my Camaro tow vehicle? |

Don't forget you also need to consider the weight of the trailer as well

I'd get a 3/4 ton minimum to tow with.

Tow package SUVs will come with a trans cooler and will be able to tow more. Obviously cars with more torque are preferable. For a trailer and a Camaro, I'd be looking at V8 powered vehicles for sure.

I use a 17 Z71 Colorado. Works great. But Florida is flat as plywood...

Becky is also in MI, and she uses a Colorado to tow her Camaro on an aluminum trailer.
I cannot fathom why a Tahoe with a 5.3L, or better yet the 6.2L, would be a worse tow vehicle than a Colorado. So, OP, I would go for it if I were you...

I’d suggest Tahoe or Yukon, if possible probably with the 6.2 even though the 5.3 should be plenty capable.

Canyon/Colorado can tow up to 7K and would be adequate. I would expect a Tahoe to be handle it somewhat easier and overall be more comfortable too.

I haven’t had to tow my ZLE but I tow a 4000lb boat no problem with my 6.2 AWD Escalade. Not a problem in hills or anywhere really. My brother tows the same boat with his 2014 AWD GMC Acadia. Same no issues in fact I am impressed with how well the Acadia goes the boat.
Never mind all the extra weight from the luggage and toys and all that crap |

Cross country style towing on a regular basis and a lot of miles? Get something serious tow rig. Going to the track close to home a few times a year, get something that can do 6000lbs safely.

A Tahoe with a 5.3 liter is all you need! Should be able to pull the trailer without struggling.

ill tell you the 6.2L is the best motor. way more power and better mileage if you stay out of it. you are going to need a 6000 lb or better tow limit. those mini trucks have no place. they don't get better mileage they just do less than a Silverado for the same money.

Tahoe with 5.3L is more than capable!
5.3L and 3.08 axle = 6400 max trailer weight 5.3L and 3.42 axle = 8400 max trailer weight (max tow pkg or Z71) 6.2L and 3.23 axle = 8100 max trailer weight I love my Colorado, gas engine and 7000 tow capacity. I get about 15-16 MPG towing and it's comfortable, fits all the track stuff in the bed and fits in my garage. |

This.
Sure a 1/2 ton will tow a Camaro. I've towed my Foxbody and old Fbody with my Lightning multiple times. Powers not the issue. A heavier beefier truck will handle a heavier load better. 350 lb men work better as offensive/defensive linemen than 180 lb men do.Towing a 6,000 lb tractor with a 1/2 ton is a sketchy affair where you are driving ultra conservatively and taking alternative routes with less traffic and obstacles. Going from towing something with a 1/2 ton to towing the same load with a 1 ton dually is night and day difference. A 3/4 ton will do a pretty good job handling a Camaro pretty comfortably. Again a 1/2 ton will do it, it will just be a more nerve racking affair as you will have to drive more cautiously and defensively, and if something starts to go wrong it with be much harder to bring back under control. If you don't do a lot of Camaro towing then a 1/2 ton will likely work okay. Why not just buy a used Duramax or even gas powered 3/4 or 1 ton truck for your tow duties? The old 8.1L gas trucks were strong towers. |
