PDR Alternatives

Hey guys,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new ZLE A10 without the PDR. Really wanted it, but this car is a steal. What aftermarket alternatives are out there?

Thanks!

Your cell phone and about half a dozen different track apps. Harry's Laptimer, RaceChrono, to name a few. You can also use gopro with data overlays from a wireless OBDII. Personally, I would look for a ZLE that has the PDR, but that is me!

Those are a good start to look into. Thanks.

If you're serious about tracking the car, I'd recommend holding out for a car with the PDR. The alternatives aren't bad, but the PDR is so much easier.

If you won't be tracking the car on a regular basis, don't get the 1LE. Get a regular ZL1 and you'll be much happier.

Plan to do several events per year. I got 18% off msrp so I'm running with it. Actually thinking about creating a system for myself and then selling it if I can't find something I'm happy enough with.

Cool.

Just know the DSSVs don't give. I think most skateboards have a softer ride. I put DSSVs on my car and didn't bother renewing the registration this year because the ride is so rough.

If you're planning several track events per year, then you may be in the group of people who can tolerate the suspension on the street. Just know what you're signing up for. The regular ZL1 rides soooo much better, and it's still killer fast on the track (especially if you put the 3Rs on it).

For the PDR, you might talk with Gen5 DIY. They can probably help you add the factory PDR to the car. They seem to be the go-to guys for this sort of thing.

Good luck and congratulations on the car!

Garmin Ultra 30 w bluetooth obd2 device, add external mic for great quality sound.

Limited analytics, but MUCH better video quality.

You can use phone app or PC to create videos w odb2 data overlays.

Interesting idea with Gen5 DIY. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to the stiff, communicative, precise ride on the track. Won't daily drive it, but will drive it on the streets when I itch for taking it out. I kind of like the idea of having a truck and a car now with DSSVs. They're brilliant in the Colorado and fully expect them to be even better in the ZL1.

Nice setup.

I'm seeing recommendations for solo dl 2 with smartycam. Anyone with experience in that setup?

I second the vote for the Garmin, I have 3 for our track bikes and they work great.

I have a seat mount with my cell phone, works great and you get the perspective of the driver better than PDR can provide. PDR is great and very easy I was a dummy forgetting to get it but it is what it is.

I have been told for the MY2020, GM installed a better HD camera for the PDR. Cant confirm, but I am sure someone here can!

Looks great! Which bluetooth OBD2 device are you using?
