D1X with a 4.50 pulley on stock LT1 Fueling, can it be done?

Got a great deal from a forum member on a D1X kit and was wondering if the kit could be run on stock fuel pumps until my bank agrees with a hi ram port injection full fuel setup? Or would it be too much of a strain on the stock LT1. New to FI and id rather not jump into it blind.

IMHO, If you run a big enough pulley and limit the boost to probably 6 to 7lbs you'd be at the edge of safety on the stock fuel system.

Would changing to an LT4 injector set and LT4 low side pump raise my safety net higher? Not trying to run crazy boost until i can get all support mods (fueling, forged rotating assembly, drop ins and other planned goodies) i want to get methanol but not as a bandaid to make up for lack of fuel but rather for temperature control.

You need to assess your goals and then build from there

Just wanting to run 560 to maybe 590 rwhp is my current goal. Maybe even 600 would be enough until boost fever kicks in which is why i got a bigger head unit. Just trying to get my plan straight on what i need to run those numbers without grenading my engine

I wouldn't install it unless you are willing to pony up for the LT4 fuel system.

Pulling the trigger on LT4 injectors and HPFP. That should be the safety net i need or is the in tank needed as well for what my current goals are (550 - 590 RWHP)?

I have never heard anyone say "I put a new pump in and the damn thing is still running hard. I wish I would of kept the smaller pump because I really wanted to rebuild my motor."

I think if you are running 93 you will be right on the edge, if you are planning on E85 you will definitely need the in tank as well. You also can not run a larger pulley than the 4.50 on our cars because it hits the bottom of the hood, been where you are already and scraped the build for a twin turbo build.

Well the reason why i ask about the LPFP is because im also thinking of getting the AUX fuel kit instead of changing the in tank. Ive heard the AUX kits are way less hassle for Garage DIY guys like me. No need to drop the tank to replace.

I would agree with this assessment and the auxiliary low sides can make more power, but they are also more expensive. The Lt4 in tank is only $160ish and the auxiliary kits are $800 to over $1000.

I have a 4.38 pulley on my D1X and that will rub the liner on a stock hood luckily I had a Anderson hood waiting to go on . D1X is a fine with full LT4 fuelling and JMS Booster if tuned correctly and you don’t expect to run it anywhere near its full potential until you do further upgrades

Well - when I did my build last winter, with a Novi 1500SL (which kind of falls in-between the P1X and D1X on CFM), I went to LT4 Injectors & LT4 HPFP on a LT1, and the car already had a LT4 low side pump (1LE package car). On 91 pump gas, a DA of 100', and about 9lbs of boost we were at about 590, which is as far as my tuner would go on pump gas. We threw Meth at it and it picked up near 50hp, and went to E85 and went to 700.

I would say to asses your goals. Without any kind of meth or E85, most people will tell you are crazy to run past 600 or 625 on the LT1 Pistons and ring gap. You can get a little farther with the alcohol / E85, but where I am at now is that If my E content is any higher than about E75 and the DA is low (like 100' or lower) I am out of HP fuel volume. And the low side is not too far from that. So I am just beginning to take my engine out to change the pistons / rods / rings and put in a cam for the added fuel lobe, and a DSX low side pump.

600hp is OK on a LT1, but that is really it. If that satisfies your goals, I would almost say to go with the P1X, it is sized better for the application. Or even consider a PD setup. But past that, and I have been lucky to have no issues in 10k miles of beating on mine, you are getting into the area where the tuning needs to be VERY good, the fuel needs to be very consistent, and you have to drive it with some intelligence.

I have a good relationship with my tuner who is one of the best E85 tuners in the country, and he pushed things out for me a little bit because he knows I am not going to jam it from stop light to stop light. But when you are shoving 1200cfm into a 376ci engine with near 12:1 compression and cast pistons, you pretty much have no tolerance for problems.
