Ported MSD vs Non Ported
I've been looking for a thread about this and cant seem to find one. I'm trying to find out how much of an improvement you get with porting an MSD intake over just slapping it on.
And also who does the best porting job? |

His results are conflicting with other vendors. I wish we had more third party data on this

Pray's ported stuff has been show to work at many race tracks. IMO a ported MSD and large / ported TB is superior to a Pray ported stock stuff only after a decent sized cam and supporting mods (2" headers, CAI, ported heads, tune). I knew I was going to build the engine so I went with 103 TB and ported MSD from the get go.

FBO, I would say total area under the curve favors Pray's ported IM and TB. MSD probably and large TB probably makes more top end HP... I went to MSD and 103 TB from the get go. So maybe somebody that went from stock ported to MSD and large TB would chime in.

From what I have read stock ported IM/TB = stock MSD. If you plan to go FBO I would go with Pray's ported MSD/95. If not go with the stock ported stuff. He's got cars in the low 11's with stock ported parts.
I went stock ported stuff, E85 , rotofab. will add headers soon.

Also, consider the application. If you're a street/drag racer that lives a quarter mile at a time, get the ported MSD/95. If the car is a daily with occasional track use, you may want to stick with the stock ported stuff for improved low/mid range. I'm in CA, so keeping things 'stock looking' has value when pulling into the Carb station..

I am on the fence with ported stock or stock MSD. I think these cars already feel great below 4000 rpms, but above that it is lacking IMO. That's where it needs the most improvement, especially compared to a 5.0. Man are they proud of those MSD's though. The price of it buys headers/ypipe.
