Second 1LE

Yesterday I picked up a 2022 2SS 6MT in Copper/Orange (don't know the color names) with 7500 miles. I previously had a 2018 1SS, Black (I picked that one up with 3200 miles) that I absolutely loved, but I had to get rid of it after nearly 2 years due to a divorce. My financial situation is such that I now could get another, so I did.

Damn I missed this car. It will flat out hustle. Though I will say that over a section of road with which I am very familiar last night I noticed some squish that I never saw in my 2018. It's similar in behavior to hitting a mid-corner bump in a SRE mustang. This was during quick back-to-back transitions in a section of esses. It wasn't a traction/rubber/grip problem; all four tires were firmly planted. The body just seemed to wiggle, something I never noticed in my 18. This was in track mode btw.

I will say that throttle tip in (again, track mode) is completely different than my 18. My 18 just had a dead zone that was annoying as hell. This 22 has instant response. It's quite different.

Congrats!

Some will cite the rear sub frame bushings. Possible, but it may be the differential programming which will catch the rear with too much throttle, but in the racier modes will wait longer than in a regular street mode. I only noticed the squishy rear bushings at the track, when really loading the suspension. My 0.02 cents.

You said it wasn't a traction/rubber/grip problem, but what were the tire pressures?

I was going to mention tires and tire pressure. Are they on the Goodyear F1 SC3 or something a little more compliant and a softer sidewall? Could also be the road may have changed since having your last 1LE.

I want to be clear. I wasn't complaining. Just noticed a difference and thought it was odd.

I really doubt it's tire pressures. I had been driving for nearly an hour at this point. It could be tires. Even though it only has 7500 miles, it's got brand new tires on there. They are Nitto NT555 G2 with a treadware rating of 320; I am assuming they are inferior to the stock rubber.

However, this definitely does not feel like a rubber issue (I tried again last night). I'm not trying to argue, it certainly may be. I know what sidewall squirm feels like and how it affects turn-in, etc, and that just doesn't feel like what's going on here. The front isn't pushing, the rear feels firmly planted, and the inside rear tire isn't spinning. It just doesn't feel like a grip problem.

Again, I'm not complaining. I just find this an interesting situation. I'm sure more seat time in this iteration of the car will teach me all kinds of things.

def inferior tires and inferior enough to the goodyears that it could be noticeable.

Exactly. Tires matter always as they ARE the connection to the road and when it's an unworthy 555 vs the outstanding and stiff walled Goodyear 3, the dynamics are going to be quite different. Not to mention that damping rates are tuned to the OE tire. The treadwear is only one of the metrics that the Nittos are inferior to the 3s.

Tire pressures matter too, especially with these dinky 30 series sidewalls. These cars are engineered to the point where the tiniest details matter.

Yep. It’s the Nittos. Had the same sensation when I switched from the GY Eagle F1 Supercar 3’s to a different brand on my SS 1LE.. it was just as you described. I went right back to the GY’s and ‘problem’ was resolved. I actually like the GY’s that came with it.

Excellent feedback. So ... that means I need to drive the piss out of the car for a while and wear these suckers out. Awesome.

I personally never get tired of seeing these cars haha. I truly think the 2020+ SS 1le is the best looking car out there today.
