A10 subtle whine
Whenever I accelerate I hear a subtle whine by the transmission area while inside the car. I’m new to this transmission and I wanted to know if this is normal with all the A10s? My car is a 2021 SS and has 580 miles so far. Thanks in advance.

Yep, this is normal. Mine also has a faint 'whine' at times under light acceleration. Almost sound like a HVAC blower or something, but it doesn't really sound bad, per-say. It's hard to describe, but it is a faint whine noise. But again, only under light acceleration... It goes away otherwise.
When I did research about the issue, found many people with the same thing. A few took the car to the dealer to be told it was normal and no issue. I can't recall the last time I heard it, to be honest. Either I have tuned it out or it went away on it's own with more mileage. I will have to pay attention again next time I go out for a drive. |

Yes, this was discussed here a few years ago, the A10 has this characteristic whine that some notice more than others.

The whine is there in 1,2,3,4,5,6. Pop it into 7th gear which is 1 to 1 and no more whine 7, 8, 9, 10

The A10 has more than one planetary gear sets it uses to provide the different ratios. The gear sets are probably what is making the whine.
The teeth on the gears are cut at an angle and that angle is probably straight enough to make them robust enough to handle the torque input, but yet at such an angle not to be to loud. Does anyone remember the Muncie M22 Rock Crusher? It whines like a grain truck transmission. Same cause, the angle the gears are cut. The sound of strength. |

Anyone ever figure out this "whine" noise or have any problems? This guy says one of the problems with the 10L80 is the idler gear fails and causes a "whine"

great mine is a 23 LT1 2 days old at 137 miles has a slight whine but when i down shift it 2nd slowing down like 28mph then 1st it sounds like straight cut gears on a centrifigul blower is this normal ...its definately not the rear ...I wonder if its because 1st and second gear are just so low of a ratio ..anyway the problem is really when down shifting ..even in 3rd gear i dont hear it just 1st and 2nd..

Whine is 4-5-6. Is that gear set that has a planetary or something. 1-2-3 has normal transmission whine IMO |

Yday while taking a cruise through a National Park, I heard a "chirping" sound when I slightly accelerated while going around 45-50 mph. I first thought it was birds I was passing along the route but wife also noticed and then i could replicate when I slightly got into the gas.
Am thinking it has to do with the gears downshifting. Anyone else notice this? |

Yeah, from my tires
...but seriously as a resident "long time" A10 owner, the trans does emit a subtle whine at idle but it's quiet and often drowned out by the engine/supercharger noises. At least it did when new, I haven't noticed it in years. No noises when accelerating or shifting but it has the abrupt clutch closure on the 3->4 shift when cold (common in 2017's). |

Yes, agree the Chriping tire noise...But my A10 transmission is for the 2SS 1LE model. Could be different than the ZL1. i don't have a lot of history with the 10 speed so my knowledge is lacking. Tks

23 1SS 1Le, Mine is doing the same whine noise. Took it to the dealer and they said the noise is coming from the front of the trans. Got an appointment to have the transmission specialist look at it, said it could take a week to fix.

Mine was a bit loud with the whine when I first got it, now it has 1500 miles on it and the whine sound has decreased a lot but there is still some sound. I'm guessing it is normal whine.

Got the car checked out again at the dealer. After having the transmission specialist look at it, he stated that it is a normal sound. He also told me I have a 60k warranty on it so just drive the shit out of it. I guess I'll have to live with it.
