Another lid thread

Yes I know I know... This topic I'm sure has been hammered on ad nauseum, but still the question remains.

Part of me really wants to swap out the lid for something like an MPI or Weapon X due to the extra whine factor and another part of me wants to just leave it alone after having done the plate removal mod because of the amount that these aftermarket units cost.

I'd like to get some honest reviews here of folks who run the aftermarket lid. Any power gains had out of it or is it all snake oil? Videos would be very much appreciated!

If your at high hp and looking for every last drop of HP choose a lid with a diverter in the middle that directs airflow into the manifold.

NX lid here. Definite increase in blower whine at all roms. Zero noticeable power gain. All noise and bling.

That really makes me wonder why the increase in whine but not in power. Unless the lid is just lighter weight and thinner than the OE one, then maybe I can see why things get louder.

You wont get more whine than the stock lid. All you need to do is take that plate off under the stock lid and add a rotofab. It will scream like a monster. Heres mine, stock completely except no lid plate and rotofab.

I've already pulled the plate off but am using the stock intake. Being in Commiefornia I can't use anything other than the OE intake or some $1000 intake made by cold air inductions which is CARB approved.

It sounds like the intake is the thing quieting a lot of it.

Just buy a nice used unit or have it shipped out of state to a friend or family member and shipped to you. Just swap out when u have to smog....

I didn't know cold air inductions was even carb approved.

Edit: CIA units are not carb approved.

There was no added power to adding a WeaponX lid on mine, was just esthetics. I was told by Dave the engineer at weaponX that the divider on the inside helps distribute fuel to cylinders better. Because of my build I do hear more whine.

LOL there’s absolutely no fuel being distributed by the lid my friend… lid moves air only and your fuel injector tips are literally in the combustion chamber. Maybe he meant it was balancing airflow between the two banks better.

If you want both power bump and louder whine get the blower ported. After Stage X port the whine is significantly louder. Video doesn’t do it justice…in person it’s way louder than before.

When I get my ZL1 I'm going to cough up the money for a lid. All the videos I've seen the blower is significantly louder than stock blower with plate removed. Swapping the lid is rather easy so just in case I need to warranty the motor at some point the lid is safer than porting the s/c. If warranty was out of the question then I would get it ported.

Yes, my summation is misleading, I meant to say air.
