ZL1 Sideskirt/Rocker Removal

One of my side skirts got chunk taken out of it and I want to remove it for the repair. I plan to repaint the mosaic black and put plenty of clear on it. The factory clear is very thin.

Does anyone have a good source for how to get it off without scratching the car or the red on the panel? I wish I had a part that was off so I could look at.

Last time I took a Camaro SS to the body shop it magically got an extra 15 miles on it. Who knows what they did. Not doing that with a new ZL1 with 231 miles. My luck some service guy would put it in a ditch or on a pole. I waited long enough for this one.

By the way, PPG high solid clears are hard to get right now.

How big of a chunk we talking? To me, a chunk sounds like it needs a new piece.

On the ZL1, side skirts are integrated with the rocker panel (molding), they need to be removed together. This service manual page shows roughly how it's done:

Thanks arpad_m. I managed to get it off without scratching anything. The page you provided was very valuable. One thing that is missed on the page is the part will slide forward about 1/2 inch once you get the upper and end retainers off. This allows most of the bottom retainers to unlock and get close to coming out. A few will need a little help. I managed to do it by myself but I have a lift that made it easier. I would recommend two people do this job to prevent damage.

Where did you get the manual? That is a handy thing to have.

Thanks a lot for the pictures and the tip, it's a super useful reference.

I bought the 2018 Camaro service manual from Helm Inc. and don't mind sharing a page or two to help.
