Exclamation Beginning of the End - GM to go fully electric

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/28/gene...s-by-2035.html

From where I am sitting, our cars have suddenly become buy and hold propositions.

My biggest issue with this is that North America does not have a utility/grid system that can handle massive consumption by electric cars. We are way behind!

All part of the plan to tank the global economy.

What ever.

In the current political climate, this would be considered a smart move.

However, electric vehicles comprise just 2% of vehicles on the road. Also with current technology electric vehicles simply don't work that well outside of urban and metropolitan areas.

So basically they (politicians) are going to gut the oil and coal industry in 15 years. Really? Both are an integral part of our and the worlds infrastructure.

Keep in mind this is the result of executive orders, all of which can be canceled with the single stroke of a pin.

They plan to. Plans change all the time. The market will dictate what manufacturers produce. It's that simple.

So, what's their investment in the dealership service side of things? Because you're talking a complete re-vamp of the competency of service personnel, mostly the mechanics, and that's not cheap or quick.

To this day, still, most of the individuals in service are people of a keen love of traditional vehicles, with ICE's, typically don't put as much thought toward electrified vehicles and don't focus too closely on diagnostics, in general, because 1. they don't have the time or 2. they don't understand the systems thoroughly enough (I'm not saying all, just the larger chuck of personnel).

The politicians will never ride in electric airplanes or trains!

Before any company can make a claim line this, they need to be able to back up what their trying to do.

I've yet to see any company to do what Tesla has done with their electric vehicles can do.

I wonder if people were this attached to horses, coal, beepers...

15 years is a long time. By then you will be nuts to not drive electric. Cleaner, quieter, cheaper to buy, maintain, operate... I see no reason not to lean into the change at this point. Stop fighting it.

Change is the only constant, but not all change is good.

Unless the electricity is derived from wind or solar it is not “Cleaner”. It’s actually less energy efficient & consumes more natural resource.

Now, once cold fusion reactors in large quantities become the norm, electric all the way.

I wonder how they are going to get around all the plastics they use. It takes a lot of fossil fuels to make plastic.
