Wow, newer Camaros have an air filter life monitor? Nice... and I used to think my wiper fluid sensor was the last gimmick they'd put in, heh

Used them for years on my Corvettes, never had an issue either.

However, I will say I did have a buddy damage a MAF sensor because he left too much oil in the filter after he cleaned it. That was on him for not following the instructions on how to prep the filter after cleaning up.

The other gimmick is rating filter life by miles driven, as opposed to, say, pressure drop across the filter.

I have heard their are different kinds of air flow sensors and Chevys air flow sensors are more bothered by oil and dirt than fords.

Stock Air Box Filter

Probably a dumb question but just wanted to make sure before I proceed. I have LT’s and a dyno tune. I just bought a new OEM air filter for my factory air box yesterday. Will it mess with the dyno tune or trigger some sort of limp mode if I open up my air box and change the air filter? Thanks in advance.

Here is an October 17, 2018 article from gmauthority.com: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/10...ilter-monitor/

How It Works
The new, 2019 Chevrolet Camaro‘s engine air filter monitor works by measuring for a sizable drop in air pressure as fresh intake air passes through the filter; the more clogged the filter is, the greater the drop in pressure from the snorkel side to the engine side. It does this each and every time the engine is run, and as soon as the measured pressure drop passes a certain threshold, the car issues an alert to the driver that it may be time to replace the filter.

Benefits
Among the benefits of such a system is the fact that it stands to save the Camaro owner money on air filters. Currently, many owners follow a set mileage schedule for engine air filter replacement, exchanging the filter for a fresh, clean one whenever the car drives so many miles with its current filter. But that schedule oftentimes errs on the conservative side, meaning plenty of premature air filter replacements where the existing filter hasn’t yet become so saturated with grit that it warrants replacement.

At the same time, many other car owners don’t replace their engine air filters often enough, and a clogged filter can lead to a loss of performance and efficiency. Putting an alert on the dash in front of the driver could help him or her to be better about replacing the filter in a timely manner, saving a bit of fuel and getting optimum performance from the engine.

Availability
The 2019 Camaro’s engine air filter monitor is available only on cars powered by GM’s 2.0-liter turbo I4 Ecotec LTG engine, and the 3.6-liter V6 LGX engine – that is, LS and LT models. It isn’t available on the V8-powered SS and ZL1 Camaros; those owners will have to take another tack when it comes to planning for engine air filter replacement.

Air filter monitor starts at 100% when reset. I replaced mine around 30k miles , monitor was around 50.

My 2021 camaro currently has 20,700 miles on it and the air filter monitor says it has 27%. I'm thinking of changing it now. There is no way it will get to 60k miles like some say.

I'm surprised this air filter monitor has that much life left, will it be true?

Most of the vehicles I have or had as well as most people I know change their air filters at 6,000 miles.

Isn't it dangerous to ride with the same air filter uncleaned for 20-40 k miles?

The best way is win it at a drag race sponsored by K&N, the guy gave me a free Air filter that fits inside my original filter box. The best time running stock everything is 101 MPH at 13.991 in Byron Dragway. It even run on run flats with 35 psi.
