Just picked up a ZL1 of my own

The story comes back full circle. Started out here on camaro 6 when i had my summit white 18 2ss red line then traded that for a black 2016 Z06 and a week ago i traded my z06 for a Riverside Blue 2019 A10 Zl1 and i could not be happier with my choice zero regrets.

Ill reintroduce myself on here since its been a bit. The names Ernie and im located in sunny Naples Fl. if anyone has any questions at all about making a switch like i did don't hesitate to ask.

heres some pics of the progression, ive got no good pics of the ZL1 just yet but that'll change soon

Why not keep the Z06? What my brain meant to say is, why not keep the Z06, seems like a heck of a car, then to switch to a Camaro, will be viewed as a step back.

I guess it all depends. I wanted a C7Z for the longest time. Still wish I would have pulled the pin on a ZR1 when I had a chance.
It’s kind of a weird thing. I see C7’s and C7Z’s ALL the time around me.
Like I’ve mentioned in another thread I never see ZL1’s or 1LE’s. Plus I’m 6-3” and personally with a longer torso I fit better in the Camaro but could drive a vette too.

I’m curious to hear about the switching as well!

I am not so sure it is a step back. I think a lot depends on the transmission choice. The A10 is noticeably better than the A8 in the Corvette. Also, even in manual form, many prefer the M6 to the M7 as far as feel. The ZL1 doesn't overheat and the general consensus is that the alpha chassis handles the LT4 power better than the C7Z does, less snap oversteer at the limit.

Cost is also a factor, the ZL1 is loaded up with all the bells and whistles, rear vision camera, Recaros with suede heated and ventilated, interior lighting, etc. for less than $70k while you are in base LZ trim on the Z for more money. I love them both but having owned them the ZL1 is not a downgrade at all. I actually prefer it more especially as a daily driver.

Very nice! Interesting to see a switch from a Z06 to a ZL1. Before I bought my ZLE I was going between that and a Z06. I think I got the better car. Glad to see someone else must agree since you made the switch back!

I'm going to be looking into moving to the Naples area after the 1st of the year! My dad recently moved to Bonita Springs, have a couple other friends in Naples and Cape Coral. I've had enough on Michigan winters! Cars and Coffee at Mercato and the cars and coffee at Gulf Coast Motorworks are awesome events! my buddy goes to those all the time with his Lambo.

The main reason i switched is because the zo6 i had had some issues i needed to sort out. the purpose with both that car and this car is to build an all out 1/4 car. so i was faced with 3 choices. either attempt to fix the z06 along with the heat issues and build it, get a 2019 z06 where the issues are apparently fixed, or get into an a10 zl1. I decided building that car was not worth it and that an a10 was the best fit for what i needed plus saved some money getting a 19 zl1 vs a 19 z06. Overall i much prefer the zl1. The a8 vs a10 is night and day their not even in the same league; ive been extreme impressed with this trans and i cannot wait until i can get it tuned. speed wise the two aren't very different the z06 definitely feels like it pulls harder the weight transfer when you do a roll in that car is intoxicating vs zl1 which also pulls like a freight train but lacks a little of that feeling i suspect because of weight but it feels a lot more precise and controlled once you hook and that 10 speed is going you're moving like a bullet vs the z06 which loses its feeling once you hit 5th. handling wise the z06 was point and shoot vs the zl1. the handling is not too far off in the zl1 but you definitely have to force it to do what you want it to do vs the z06 on command just turns. the a10 zl1 just drives like a better thought out car the z06 with the a8 felt kind of sloppy at times unless you were always in manual mode. If i were to ever get another z06 (which i probably will in the future) it would have to be an m7 i feel like that car was made for that trans, overall i like the zl1 much better it feels like the lt4 fits the zl1 much better with the a10 than in the z06. Thats just to name some things any other specific questions feel free to ask.

So cool to hear, thanks for that. Maybe the ZL1 should be my next step from the LT1, and maybe not a used C6 or C7. That's kind of the info I was looking for in your answers.
