5w40 vs 5w30 for daily driving

Hello Folks
I live in sunny (hot and muggy) South Florida.
Just came back from my first track event.
Prior to the event, I changed the 5w30 to the recommended 5w40.
A few days later I changed it back to the 5w30.
For the sake of future reference, Should I have just kept the 5w40 in there?
I noticed the oil still looked pretty good. In addition, another member sudggested to just leave it in there.
I have read plenty about the pending 0w40 but I don’t have access to it locally.

Pretty sure as long as the 5W-40 is Dexos2 compliant you can keep running it on the street.

In FL you don’t have to worry about the first number. It doesn’t get cold enough. Use the 5W40 DEXOS 2 until you can get 0W40 DEXOS 2.
