Fuel Leak Near Tank - Any Likely Culprits?
I have a 2010 Camaro 2SS that sat for about 10 months. I recently got it going again and noticed it smelled like gas. It went in today for an inspection and oil change and the mechanic noticed a gas leak near the tank (see attachment).
It appears to only leak when the car is running, as I haven't noticed any fuel in the driveway and you only smell the gas after starting it. Any likely culprits or places I should be starting with this? |

Best guess on the leak would be the plastic top 90Deg fuel pump hat fitting. The V2 CTS-V has a common problem with that plastic fitting cracking and leaking fuel with age. Happened on a used V2 pump I purchased, lots of threads about this. The Camaro fitting looks to be built a bit stronger, but still may crack in the same way...
Or could also be the fuel pump module oring, fuel line and/or fitting that connects to pump on top. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Mine was leaking from a crack at the nipple of the fuel pump hat.

I cut an access hole under the seat. Quite a few posts here and on FB on where and how.

Might not want to cut an access hole with a gas leak. Safer to drop the tank. I've seen rodents set up home and chew through gas lines also. Especially on vehicles that sat for a while.

Electric shears would work fine as they do not create much heat or any sparks. I would not recommend cutting it with a cutoff wheel though.

Fuel pump.
I cut a whole in mine to install my triple pump setup. Super easy with a cutoff wheel. Just take your time. I would be leary about doing it with a fuel leak. Better to drop the tank than start a fire.

I used a drill with length of rubber fuel hose on the bit to keep from drilling too far and then shears with my leak.

This is the tool I would choose, it is commonly known as a "body saw" and runs on air.
The chrome guard on the front can be changed to control the depth of the cut. This tool uses standard hacksaw blades and does not put off many sparks. https://www.harborfreight.com/profes...4aAvgbEALw_wcB |

I cut a hole following a guide here. It was sketchy but now I have an access door in case I ever have to go back in there
