2022 final Production Counts

With 2023 production starting this week how long should I wait before emailing GM Heritage about 22 production numbers?

Based on the last 6 digits of my VIN, I'm going to say around 29-30 thousand 2022 Camaros.

You cant go by the VIN since they are not sequential and are mixed in with the Cadillac's depending on the Trim.

Not even close.

GM has sold just under 12k 2022 Camaros this model year in the US. I'm guessing it will end around 14k-15k. For 2021, it was just under 23k in the US.

Could have sold many more if they would build and ship them.

Funny how that goes. I know everybody is going to tell me it isn't their fault because they couldn't get parts but I heard an unsubstantiated rumor they could buy chips domestically but at a higher price.

Kblanton2 - there is little to no chip production in the USA. There are a handful of fabs under construction due to this mess we've seen the last couple of years, but it will be several years before see substantial domestic microprocessor production.

Who would they buy them from?

Ah ha. I didn't know they were mixed in with the Cadillacs. I believe the first car off the line VIN would be 100001. So perhaps the plant total is closer to my original estimate?

I said it was a rumor I heard. I forget where but at the time it was explained like chips were available domestically but they would be at a much higher price so car makers in general, not just GM, would not use that source.

I said it was a rumor, do you hear me saying it was a rumor? Rumor, not substantiated or confirmed. I have no firm information it is true BUT if a multi-billion dollar global corp wanted to they might be able to source an item.

A RUMOR.

I'm sorry I posted.

Funny thing I've been seeing lately on the Facebooks: people are willing to believe rumors more than facts. It's as if it's more fun to believe in conspiracy theories than the real deal.

Stop posting rumors unless you can back them up with facts. Problem solved. Don't give us that snark.

I highly doubt that GM would let orders for $30-70K cars get dropped if they could source some slightly more expensive chips. They had to dump a lot of '22 orders at the end of the ordering window. They may have prioritized chips for better selling cars though, but I doubt there were any "extras" available.

But they will let them sit for months without shipping.

Never claimed any "extras". Was just informed the products were available but at a much higher cost.
