Has anyone towed a ZL1 with a rental U-haul auto trailer?

Like the title says. Has anyone towed a ZL1 with a rental U-haul auto trailer? Looking for tips/advice on fitment/clearance issues with towing a ZL1 1600 miles on a rental u-haul trailer.

You should see if they will rent you one first.
They are very selective on what kind of truck they will let their trailers leave the lot on.

Their drop down box in the system they use only has a Camaro SS option, no ZL1 option. So I told them to use the SS option and they said it would work. The ZL1 is the 76 inches wide and their trailers are 79 inches wide so I don't think Ill have an issue fitting the car on the trailer. What worries me is the clearance of the front splitter and how low the car sits. I will have the yellow spacers in the front springs so that should help I'm hoping

Bring some boards , those trailers are pretty high. Also be very careful opening your drivers door, even with the trailer fender down. You door will probably contact the fender when you open it to get out.

I towed my 67 on a u haul auto transport, I was going to load my 11 on there to see if it fit but the front lip was hitting the ramp. But if you bring some wood and make a ramp you should be OK. Bring some nice tiedowns, u haul ones aren't very good and the fronts kept loosening.

Hauled my ss a few times and wife's LT once (moved a couple of times last few years). I highly highly recommend you protect the front end or you will have a lot of rock chips on your front.

As mentioned above, a couple of boards will really help as well. My car is lowered but doesn't have that air dam under the front so it wasn't to bad. Not sure how low zl1 sits but I would make sure I had something to help with clearance issues that may arise.

I think the Wheels will be too wide on the ZL1, we've hauled a couple classic cars on those trailers and they seemed like they might be a little tight for the wheels the ZL1,1LE's, and Z28's have, although only a couple inches wider that the regular SS rims, that could be the margin of fitting and not fitting. I could be wrong though, just my opinion. Good luck op

It was tight on my '83 Trans Am. It was expensive too and a wandering trailer. When I had to go half way across the country (TX to NC) again I bought a trailer (wood floor) and sold it when I got to NC for $500 more than I paid for it.

I looked into this a while back when i was getting ready to PCS. Uhaul has two different car haulers, one with a standard width wheel track and one with a wider track. If you select 2014 as the year the ZL1 option will be listed. Its not listed under '12 or '13. We did not use it, put the money to a down payment on our own trailer instead, so I can't help with fitment.

That would be a tight fit and there would be zero room for error loading and unloading. But, if you do, extend the ramps to the next county (for a smooth transition)and make sure you have a guide who knows what they're doing... I had my wife guide me and it would have been easier landing Apache helicopters on an inner tube :-)

I have towed my lowered 1le 3 times it is a tight squeeze however it works. I use 2 in thick wood in the front portion to raise the front splitter over the front You can pm me if you have any questions

I towed my ZL1 to detroit for the 6th gen premiere. You need to put the yellow blocks in the front springs to clear the front edge of the trailer. I had no issues. towing it the uhaul trailers are solid as a rock.
