Anyone have this issue? CV joint torn.

I've now had my Camaro for one year and 2,300 miles. While in for a PA state inspection, the (local Ford dealer) service tech advised me that my "left rear outer C/V joint boot is torn". Anyone else deal with this issue? My Chevy dealership didn't notice this when it was in for the first oil change back in April. I drive very conservatively, only sunny sunday afternoons. What could cause it and what damage could it have already done?

Torn C/V boots are typically the result of road debris. The boot needs to be replaced ASAP. Over time, dirt/grit will get into the joint and cause damage.

yeah not a big deal. Just replace the boot and you'll be golden.

I would take it to the dealer and see what they say about replacing the CV joint as well. If the boot has been torn for a while, most of the grease has already been thrown out and the CV joint needs to be replaced.

I would expect to see a mess of grease down there. Have you looked?

My car is a garage queen. There's nothing leaking on the garage floor.

The dealer had to order parts(plural). I think he mentioned kit on the phone. The service dept was closed when I went back to pick it up. Waiting for a call back when the parts arrive. They did tell me to refrain from driving it which is easy for me to do.

Yeah it’s purely a spare time for pleasure vehicle. It gets put away for the winter in a few months.
