Steering “Loose” After Header Install
Hey guys, just finished installing 2" headers and mid pipes over the weekend. Removed steering shaft and used seat belt to hold steering wheel so it wouldn't spin freely and possibly break the clock spring in it. Everything is buttoned up but now I have a little wiggle room when I turn before the wheel actually starts to turn the car. It isn't much but it's enough to notice since it was never there before. I have tried to move the shaft closer to firewall but it wont budge any. Any tips? Not sure what it could be.

First: Don't drive it until you fix it.
Second: trial and error and elbow grease to make sure its slid on all the way before buttoning up.

are both of the isolators (or whatever they’re called) installed correctly in the shaft?

Yes. Everything bolted up fine. No issues. I will post a video of the issue

Have someone wiggle the steering wheel like you did in the video and look under the hood to see where the play is.

I am starting to think it's the steering wheel itself. But I will try to wiggle it and see if the shaft is even moving. If something broke or moved I'm not sure how. I ran seat belt through the wheel to make sure it wouldn't move when I removed the steering shaft

has to be an install issue, remove the bolts and make sure it is going through the inside shaft, my thinking is you did NOT slide the inside shaft far enough in, the bolt is not through the hole of the inside shaft. There is nothing wrong with the wheel or anything inside the car.

I'd at least unbolt it and try it again. Make sure it's all seated right.

Also make sure it's torqued all the way. The last few threads on that bolt are pretty tight. And make sure the bolt is in the right way. On a lot of cars you can put it in backwards and it doesn't clamp down all the way.
