Pony Wars: $5,000 in mods 2017 Camaro Vs 2017 Mustang
Coworker shared this article to me last night, really interesting to see the camaro only picked up 10whp with bolt ons and tune.

Correct, but if I spent 5 on intake, cai, long tubes and a tune and netted 10whp id be extremely disappointed.

There's massive amounts of wasted money in this.
The Camaro did NOT need that intake manifold. A ported stocker would have been cheaper and better. Likewise the Mustang didn't need 20" wheels. For crying out loud that was a performance loss, not a gain. Something like flow forged 19" TSW's would have cleared the new big brakes and been lighter and had less rotational mass than boat anchors. Just...ugh. This kind of stuff annoys me because they make stupid, bonehead decisions which waste money and could have been used for other, more cost effective and bang for the buck modifications. |

A very detailed independent write up and dyno test of these same mods produced 31rwhp with 93 octane. Jannetty racing. Only difference was a rotofab cai and not Holley.
Headers alone make 15 rwhp All these mods with E85 and porting to the msd intake make about 80 rwhp. And I believe it. I picked up .8 and 8 mph all said and done compared to near stock on drag pack 10 rwhp is a joke something is up Maybe the aftermarket converter wasn’t locking in the Camaro ? It’s trap speed sure does suck for the mods I don’t doubt it |

It's part of the reason I hate American Muscle's videos because they will do a "performance build" but include axle backs.. "to round things out". Like..that intake manifold is a MSD AirForce manifold..that goes for $1,100! I get they were wanting to match it up with the Ford since it has the GT350 intake manifold and such.. But that money could have been better spent on a better cam, like a GPI cam and utterly put the Ford into the dirt in every metric. Just...gah. |

On a heads cam car a ported msd was just proven to pick up 30rwhp over a ported stock |

You are already an idiot if you spent money on an intake thinking it'd add HP.
