GREAT Cell Phone Mount

I’ve been trying to find a cell phone mount for my 2SS Vert for a while. I was using one that clipped into the driver’s side center console vent, but as a guy who keeps the top down as much as possible, blocking a vent wasn’t great.

I also tried keeping my phone in the little cargo net I added to the lower/forward center console carpet, as well as in the center console itself, but I kept forgetting the phone in the car.

I’ve bought a bunch of the stick-on magnetic phone holders, but were all just a little too big/intrusive looking when the phone was not attached, and they did not allow me to place the phone where I really wanted it.

So I bought the Clutchit Original Dual Magnetic Moveable Phone Holder on Amazon for $19.99.

This is The One.

Since it uses a magnet on both ends, you can easily remove it from your dash, and all you have left on your dash is the little stick-on metal plate/disc.

And it adjusts via ball-joint on both ends, so you can really goose-neck it to the position you want.

The stick-on discs it came with are really nice, but they are not all black and have a pretty readable logo on them which I personally do not care for. So I used a small, black disc from one of the Scosche kits I already had. You could also just hit the ClutchIt metal disc with some good black (or color or your choice) spray paint.

So here are the pics... Sorry about the black Birks with tan socks... They are my “throw them on to go outside shoes.”

Anyway, pics:

Personally I like CarPlay, though do wonder if this would leave any residue when taken off

With that little square Scosche plate stuck to the dash, the magnet mount was slipping a little.

So I painted one of the thicker, round disks that came with the mount flat black and stuck it over the little square plate. No slippage and actually looks much better.

Really liking it.

Hey Marco, dang you, you cost me $20.

Just got it tonight and it's very solid and heavy, and so far I like it. The thick disc is drying as I spray painted matte black and will tommroow put it on.

I think it's over priced and should sell for $14.95 but if it holds my S5 phone and I know you can get other metal discs from Amazon I think it's the best cell mount for the Camaro THANK YOU!

The only bad review was a few months the 2 ball heads were getting loose and the phone was slipping but how long have you had yours?

I will report back in a week and post a mini review!!

Thanks again!
Christopher

After I spray painted it matte black with 2 coats and did spray the rim so no silver would be seen, here are 2 pics with flash and without. There's not to much flat slat to stick it to due to the dia of the disc but I think I found the best spot as you can see in my pics.

Cengell: I’m in Arizona right now, back in a couple of days. My car is at my buddy’s body shop getting the front splitter replaced. (I cracked it on a railroad-tie parking stop. Curb Alert will be installed when I get it back!)

It was working great when I left. Will let you I know once I get it back and check it out.

Also realized I left my Range Device plugged in before I left. It will be 5 days when I get it back. I’ll be able to post on whether or not their 8.6 firmware really doesn’t drain batteries!

Picked up the car today. Looks perfect.

Mount still working fine.

And no start/battery drain issues from leaving the Range plugged in for 5 days while the car was at the shop.

Happy.

And yesterday the mount came off. Need to try some stronger mounting tape.

Anyone have experience with they consider the strongest, most permanent mounting tape?

I have used this for a few projects in the past few years:

I ordered some of the Gorilla Tape. Claims to be the strongest/heat/weather resistant.

I will order some the of the VHB as well.

Thanks!

Hate it. Ruins the clean look of the dash.
Besides, with carplay and Android auto why do you need your phone mounted on the dash?
Just plug it in and put it away.
