My wife would get to enjoy the car too if I got one with an Auto and I like that.

Press gas. Stare at windshield. Listen to elevator music.

It's just wrong.
Might not be as interesting...and I agree with you there. But if you are a serious racer, and if the automatic is the faster way around the track (not talking about just Camaros here...I'm talking in general) then you better bet your rear end that the "boring" way is what is going to be the dominate way.

Now if we talking weekend driver, weekend track warrior...whatever...then its a different subject in my opinion. By all means...get a manual.

I haven't really read much if any of this thread, but really...it all boils down to what you want or what you need. What is more fun to you? One is not superior to the other in every category.

Not directed at you, but to everyone. Go buy what makes you happy. End of story.

Pretty sure the manual is the fastest way around the track. This is why gm chooses to set its Nurburgring times with manuals. The most recent corvette times were with manuals...and pretty sure all newer Camaro vids are with manuals.

Very true. The only reason to buy an automatic, other than if you simply can't drive stick, is if you want bragging rights at the drag strip. To which there is only a .2 second advantage over the manual. In all other types of driving you will not notices the advantage of the automatic so it's pretty much moot.

Links to the official Corvette Nurburgring lap times please.

Lol. Just looked again after I posted. Only gm in car videos I could find were with manuals. That's is last gen corvettes. Last gen zl1. And obviously z28. So no solid proof...but zl1 obviously available in auto and I know why they used the manual LOL.

But if you look at most "spy" videos I think a good majority are manuals.

Notice the key words "chooses" and "recent"
The two Corvettes in your list were only available in manual, so no "choice" was involved. Second, those aren't recent. They haven't released any times for the "recent" C7 Corvettes. GM has, however, stated that the automatic is faster around every track they have tried. We don't know if that includes the ring because they are keeping that one under their hat for now.

Ok. But if the auto was indeed faster and they have publicly stated that...what reasons would they have to withhold that info?

What about other tracks?

The owner's of the ring have asked that all manufacturers not release track times for the time being. GM is honoring this request.

Interesting stuff. A spectator dies from an event and this is their reaction. Am I missing something?

Seems a bit drastic, but I doubt we know the full story. My guess (and this is just a guess) is they are still over-leveraged from buying the track and really want to avoid lawsuits and government scrutiny.

My 2012 1SS is a 6M. I have taken it to the track several times and ran some autocrosses with it. They were a lot of fun and if that was all I did it would be a no brainer to get another manual. But I also like to go to the drag strip and run brackets. Although I have won with the manual, its a real bummer at the strip. The whole drive train seems to not handle the stress well and its very difficult to cut good reaction times with consistently. Winning elimination rounds is fun and this is my fun car, so I am leaning toward the automatic. Can the automatic be fun at the track and autocross or does it just kill the whole experience?
