To Power Sunroof or Not to Power Sunroof

I'm looking at making an order if I can fit in a Camaro as it's clearly the best performance bargain dynamically (IMO) and I LOVE the looks. A little concerned about comfort and usability but I can test all that.

My ideal build:
New (21-22) 1SS Auto
Carbon Flash Wheels
Magnetic Ride Control

That's it! I think that would give me a great sports car that would be manageable on sometimes questionable Midwest roads but one option I'm wondering about:

Power Sunroof. For those that have one, does it-

Impede headroom?
Operate well?
Enhance enjoyment of the car?
Operate seamlessly and quickly?
Feel to you like it was worth the money?

Any other thoughts and, while we're at it, if you think I might be well served to add another option feel free to @me in the thread I don't really want the NPP exhaust for the weight but would consider it only, and I do mean only, if the stock exhaust is too loud or droning.

I have no personal experience in a Camaro myself, but every other car I've been in gains room without the sunroof because there is no mechanism to hide behind the headliner.

I did find this thread from when the 6th gens came out - by page 2 there seems to be a general consensus that you DO have more headroom without the sunroof. I didn't read the entire thread to see if anybody was able to quantify it, though.

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=436897&page=2

As for the other questions, the only one I can answer is the 'worth the money' one - for me, it would not be, and I ordered my car without it. The only reason I have one on my DD is because it was part of the trim level I wanted for the other features. For me, the wind noise when it's open is bothersome for my ears - but it does come in handy to equalize the pressure when I have the dogs in the back and the back windows are open for them. Since they will not be getting in the Camaro, and the ordering process is much more a la carte than I could do with the Subaru, I didn't include it. Plus, I think the car looks better without one because of the shape of the roof.

As far as the sunroof, it is ultimately your choice. In 2018 when I got a ZL1, it took a while to find one without a sunroof in SW FL. I only wanted one with no sunroof. In my opinion I think the ZL1 lines flow and look better without the sunroof.

My wife's last two vehicles, a 2020 Blazer RS and now 2021 Tahoe RST have the dual panel roofs. They operate just fine and work great. As far as headroom, I am 6-06 and have no issues. But it could be totally different in a Camaro.

As far as price, on the suv's sunroof option is $1595 (But again dual pane). On a Camaro I think its $995, so kind of a bargain. Good luck with everything.

Do it.
Gives you more head room if anything.
Fits with the lines of the car perfectly imo.
Great during the winter here in az when you want the air flow in the car but might not fully want the windows down because the gf will complain about getting “too cold”.
Controls are a no brainer, just press once for it to fold out (works moving or parked, which some vehicles dont for some reason) and hold to fold back down.
I love having mine, but I’m also in the perfect state to use it 80% of the year.

IMO:

Impede headroom? No, unless you plan to track the car and need to wear a helmet.
Operate well? Yes
Enhance enjoyment of the car? Absolutely
Operate seamlessly and quickly? Absolutely
Feel to you like it was worth the money? Definitely.

I couldn’t stand sunroofs. of course when I found my camaro it has one SMH. I ended up liking the sunroof option after all.

If you like having a sunroof, I would get one by all means.
My last car had a sunroof, and I knew I would not miss one on the Camaro. I am happy without it.
Since the roof line has a central valley which flows front to rear, I don't see how breaking up those lines with a sunroof improves the look of the car. But to each his own.

I like them. Opens up the "cave" on just about any car, even if it is just opening the shade. Although I like the verts best. You will lose headroom so check the numbers if that is an issue.

Unless your seat is in the middle of the car, you lose a little headroom. A lot of people (that are not short) strangely try to jack their seats up as far as they will go, instead of a lower driving position. I see this in all sorts of vehicles, like our company ones. I can’t live without a sunroof, it’s a must have for me.

Have one in my DD Cadillac XT5. It’s never been opened and I mean never. In the Camaro you lose the nice lines on the roof when you add the sunroof. Yes it does reduce headroom. I just don’t need another opportunity for air and water leaks. If you want air then buy a vert.

It absolutely impedes headroom. I am 6'5" and in the models I tested with a sunroof, it was a no-go. My head would brush it even the lowest/farthest position.

Without a sunroof? I have a few inches clearance. It was a big difference for me.

I also hate sunroofs and never use them when I did have them (hate sunlight hitting me from above or the wind noise and all that), so it was a very easy pass. Also, the car looks better with the reverse mohawk on top.

When you order a sunroof it breaks the roofline and it is beautiful on the Camaro. When you get a sunroof you destroy all of that. Just my personal preference and I am a bit of a hypocrite buy a convertible that really removes that beautiful roofline.

Or if you have a white 1LE, it enhances the white/black contrast...
