GM CAI
I was in the process to order the gm Cai with my dealership after asking many questions about this product the one that surprised me the most was about the horsepower gains. Since gm doesn't post anything on the cai or after the ecm tune the dealership told me there is no horsepower gain from this set up so I never ordered it. What is the purpose of this gm cai other then looking nice under the hood?

I'm sure it adds power it just isn't measured by GM. The main purpose is maintaining warranty and it being legal in CA. If you don't care about warranty and aren't in CA go with the Rotofab.

Thankfully I didn’t pay full retail for the intake. I’ve read on here that some gain power but some lost? Either way, the car did perform slightly better without the tune. I do want to jump on that rotofab ship sometime down the road

yeah.. I was going to put one on my order but it's $625 now and I found a link where it's $393 lol so I'll buy it from there to keep warranty. I'll look at different options after B2B is gone

Exactly what I’m doing. It does the job, really can’t complain all that much.

I'm not even 100% certain I'm going to go through with an order right now.. I just keep thinking if I wait until next year maybe I can pick up a used one for $35-$37 like early last year.. but I already have around $2500 in mods I want

Pretty sure any gains are within the error range of any dyno. This has been measured and beaten several times. I think the GM "tune" just recalibrates the tolerance of the MAF sensor. The factory cal would be tuned to the stock ductwork. It's all about laminar flow and turbulence.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Every performance car forum should have a sub-forum just for CAI's. We have one for tires and stereos. |

Prior to buying mine I looked through all the threads I could find and eventually came across one where someone had personal access to a dyno and did before and after CAI install/flash runs with no other changes and found ~15hp gain. Unfortunately, I didn't save the link. Nigel |
