my buddy has a type r (same color too .. not the car pictured below in my sig, lol!) .. i drove the Type R on track and got driven around by him... the SS1LE is a total beast in comparison. the type R has a nice balance and feel to it but just not there imo. the type R is WAY more practical and if the camaro weren't a 3rd car, the type R would probably fit the purpose of commuter/family/track roles ... although my favorite "do everything" car is still the BMW M3.. different price point but who cares.

The hot laps were done with the same driver and sure enough, the 1LE decimated the Type R.
I don't mean to hijack this thread so where do I find the thread topic for flat foot shifting on a 1LE? Is that an option? Also is their a launch control option?

Here's one straight from the horse's mouth: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513327

No option or manual activation needed, it's always active. You need to keep your right foot to the floor while executing the shift, obviously as quickly as you can.

Different video, same story.

As others mentioned, need to swap drivers between cars for true conclusion.

The lady driver wasn't even close. I'm not knocking the Type R as I would have considered buying one if it weren't for the red seats and trim and awful body work. Oh, and Honda dealers treat them like they are some rare earth metal and test driving one is not an easy task. The SS and SS 1LE purchases were super easy for me and the two cars do not compare. Then you'll have people argue about the Type R Nurbrigring (sp?) lap time. No one wants to talk about the roll cage, radio system removal, and back seat removal (the things we know of ). Some dealers are marking Type R's up about $5000-10,000 !!!

I've had a very good time going up against Type Rs in autocross and at the track. I agree that the V6 1LE and Type R would be the correct match-up.

A co-worker bought a Type-R about a year ago. He had it for a week. His wife hated it. She refused to even ride in it. I took him for a ride in my car. He was completely floored when I told him what I paid for my car. He ended up returning it a week later when nobody would ride with him in it.

Yeah the actual realistic price is what separates them. List vs list they are pretty close. I like the type r but the looks and real world price make it unattractive in my opinion. I recently saw a dyno video, and a bone stock type r made 290 rwhp. Which is about what the V6 Camaro makes with a manual transmission. They are clearly underrated

The difference is the R makes the torque down low and the V6 will have to rev sky high. Torque under the curve for the R is going to be massively more. That number doesn't really indicate being "under-rated". Also gotta figure out what they are stating in the adverts/specs, SAE at the crankshaft or power at the wheels.

They are advertising the type r at 305 at the crank, so 290 at the wheel shows it definitely underrated. I do agree about the torque though. No comparison there. Plus it's a fairly light car as well

Good point - that low-end turbo torque definitely would help the Type-R especially in an autocross! And in general it does seem to punch above its weight class.

Still, no regrets going with the Camaro as I had never owned a RWD car and wanted to see what that's like.
