How many miles to go after gas light comes on?

Just curious...

Other cars I've owned stated in their manuals that there's about 2 gallons remaining in the tank when the light comes on, but I couldn't find any numerical indicator in the Camaro's manual.

I would not attempt to drive more than 20 miles with the low fuel light/low fuel message on the DIC.

You can damage your fuel pump if you drive around too often with low fuel in the tank. The fuel keeps your fuel pump cool. I usually try to fill up when I'm down to around a quarter of a tank.

This is exactly what I did yesterday / today.

I live 22.7 miles from work and it came on as I parked at the house. There's a gas station next door to work and I filled up coming to work this morning.

Yesterday my gas light came on and when I filled up it took about 17.60 gallons. So there was a good gallon or so left to go.

From what I've seen, the light does not come on at any specific fuel level...more often when the Fuel Range gets under 45-50 miles (so that could more or less than 2 gallons depending on the computer's calculation based on your driving). That said I've never let the range get under 30.

Well mine said about 35 miles to empty before it stopped giving me DTE. Then I ran 4 autocross laps and drove to the gas station and put 19.035 gallons in it. LOL!!! I'm sure the car has some fuel in reserve, but I won't push it quite that far next time.

I'd say you probably have a gallon or 2 left.... I wouldn't push it much more than 20 on mine unless it was absolutely necessary (haven't had to in the past).
Easiest way to figure it out would be let the gas light come on, top off the tank, copy the amount of fuel needed to fill up and subtract that from the fuel tank max capacity. Tells u how many gallons were left in the tank and multiply by your mpg.

Remember E stands for empty, not enough for 10 more miles lol

If my light ever comes on, I try not to go more than 10 miles before filling up
