GM Camaro CAI
Greetings,
I looked at prior postings and did not find my answer. I am also sure this questions has been beaten to death so if this is redundant, I apologize for it now. This is a really great form and I really appreciate all the great feedback it provides. I have a 2018-2SS, 6.2 Engine, Hot Wheels Edition Convertible. It is a really great ride, it has all the options, and it is a very refined car. I have Magneride and the exhaust that changes loudness with the driving modes. I purchased an extended 8-year warranty on my car, it is a summer only car, and I just wanted my butt covered for as many summers car seasons as I could get. I know this is not always the best thing to do, but I am covered bumper to bumper for 8- years an that will take me to 70 years old. I am interested in installing the GM approved CAI so it won't void my warranty. I believe it comes with an approved tune that is warranty friendly too. My question is it really worth the money, and is there any added performance from the GM CAI? Also, does it change the exhaust sound, and does it make it sound any deeper? I had a 2008 GT500 that was modded to the max. It was a great car, but every time I did a mod it lead to another needed mod, or it created another headache for me. I was pulling 771 HP at the rear and it was a pretty frightening car, but it wasn't a very relaxing car to drive when I got done. I also through a ton of money into it for all the upgrades and when I sold it to buy my new Camaro, I really took beating on it. I guess, I am just not interested in heading down that road again. However, a few simple Camaro non warranty busting mods is what I would be interested in. The first one being the GM CAI. Please advise! Thanks Edgemere |

I love my GMP CAI, it is the first thing people point at when I open the hood... According to Cold Air Inductions (the company that makes the CAI for GM, it adds roughly 10 HP), but it also increases the intake noise which sounds great at higher power settings...
I thought it was money well spent, you can get it here for $393, install it yourself and then take it to the dealer for the free tune... https://www.shopchevyparts.com/perfo...-92304337.html

Edgemere, you have an absolutely wonderful car. I was seriously contemplating the Hot Wheels edition back then, even sat in one, but that beautiful garnet red color (and the price tag on the HW package) deterred me eventually.
Just to make things clear, the GM CAI will not change how the car feels in any way except adding a little bit more intake noise. The "tune" it comes with is a single MAF scaling table update, and even if it adds 3-5 or even 10 hp up top, you'll feel practically nothing in the seat. It's up to you whether it's worth your money for these minor improvements and the arguably enhanced engine bay appearance it delivers. (BTW, I had this intake before the Roto-Fab, so I'm not making things up.)

FWIW, I went down the "mod" rabbit hole with my 5th gens...Not messing with my 6th gen. for maybe 10 hp that I won't feel or notice and some engine bay appeal. Just not going down that road anymore.

Many on here know, and respect Cunningham as a 6G tuner. He recently posted this regarding the GM CAI and the associated tune.

How would one clean the filter? Just wash it every what 10 or 20 thousand miles?

Me neither. Tint and an axle back (had non NPP exhaust) was all I’ve added and all I’ll ever add. Throwing $$$ away is a hobby I’ve abandoned years ago thank goodness.

Is Cunningham still in CA? I’ve noticed my car in 1st and 2nd gear seems to either lose traction or fuel is being cut since the car seems to stumble. The car came with intake installed when new and the 419/414 seems like a great daily driver. I wonder what full exhaust means (headers, exhaust, etc. or just axle back?). I’ve seen a guy on YouTube with stock NPP make 530 on pump and 700 with a 175 shot.

They don't make 10 hp, I've had mine since 19, the tune I was told by my buddy who is a service manager for Chevy said the tune is for Ca emissions only, never got it tuned it runs great, just like the stock one. Don't waist ur money.

The tune is included in the cost if you buy the GM CAI. You are supposed to get the tune at no extra cost.

Same here! I ordered all the basic goodies (LT headers, CAI, exhaust system) even before my 5th gen was delivered to me. I drove it from the dealership, home, to shop. I regret to not have the chance to enjoy it 100% stock. Sold the car in 2015 and got me an SUV. Eight months later I have both the SUV and a 6th gen
