Factory Alignment Warranty
PSA - GM only covers the factory alignment on these cars up to 7,500 miles. If you're under that than I highly recommend you get it done through a dealership.
Some of the alignment bolts on these wonderful machines are TTY (one time use only) which means that if they are loosened to align the car they must be replaced. While I'm curious to know what kind of torque values we're talking about, it doesn't take away from the fact that a TTY bolt 'should not' be re-used. I personally have about ~8,400 miles on mine (not a DD), and I have noticed uneven tire wear to the outsides of all four tires. Was told yesterday that yes, the camber is out on all four tires and in addition to the new TTY alignment bolts the front end needs to have a "strut grind". In total it's going to cost ~$450 for a four wheel alignment, which isn't crazy expensive but, I wanted to get this out there for awareness. |

Did you see the MESS of my alignment in the other thread?
I have only 2k miles, showed the dealer, they will do the alignment next week.

Thanks for the heads up. I think it's normal for manufacturers to limit the time they'll cover an alignment. Can you explain what a "strut grind" is?

That was on my mind when I purchased. I wanted to have it checked before I drove off the lot but I had to beat a snow storm on a 450 mile trip home. So far my tires @2000 miles are wearing pretty even.
I have a Ram 3500 that just ate through the front tires in 10k miles. Took it in and the alignment was WAY out of whack. Lesson learned.…. |

After touring the BG Corvette factory and watching the alignment on a C7, it's amazing the alignment is as close as it is. If the Camaro line is similar, any new one should be aligned before delivery if possible.

I learned the hard way when I found horrible wear on the outside of the passenger front tire. Took it in at 8500 mi as was told too bad, there is a 7500 mi limit. This is BS, the factory should be replacing the tires and aligning for what is a factory defect.

So, the guy who does the alignments in the shop left before I got to the dealership yesterday so I wasn't able to ask what he did. Apparently this cat has been doing alignments for a long time and he's a bit of a stickler for details.
How the service manager explained the 'strut grind' to me is that in order to get some cars an alignment that is truly dialed-in, they sometimes have to do some grinding where the strut mates with the frame - I believe it's a clearance issue with the bottom of the strut but, I'm still not 100% sure what the hell it does. At any rate, it was less than an hour worth of labor for the 'strut grind'. Here's my before and after: Last edited by kwav8r; 05-11-2019 at 03:43 PM. |
