Exhaust Burble

As I near the 1500 mile mark on my 22 ZLE, I am wondering if the amount of exhaust burble I am hearing would be considered "normal" for a completely stock car. I usually keep the exhaust in track mode and generally drive with a low to moderate acceleration. I am certainly not beating on the car at all.

Every time I lift off throttle and coast I get a tremendous amount of pops and bangs, sometimes it will even happen between shifts at low speed/rpm. In addition, my exhaust tips get the black residue after only a couple of weeks. It's reminiscent of the first gen Jaguar F-type in how much it burbles.

All gauges are reading in normal range so I assume all is well, but looking for some opinions.

The burbles are normal. It's the result of deceleration fuel cutoff (DFCO) and if you have a manual, clutch fuel cut off (CFCO). These are programmed in the tune.

Any unburnt fuel in the exhaust when these kick in will ignite causing the burbles. I should also mention that spark timing when DFCO and CFCO kick in also plays a role in causing the pops and bangs.

The black exhaust tips are also normal. These cars a programmed to run rich from the factory. Driving in stop and go traffic will make the tips turn black even faster.

Your car is perfectly normal. Enjoy the pops and the bangs. It's a cool feature of the Camaro.

As hawk02 said, it is programmed into the tune and is perfectly normal, I think this started with the 2019 model year... If you really want to make it snap, crackle and pop, accelerate hard in 2nd gear and then let off the gas...

Enjoy!

The burble was actually added to the 19+ cars. The 17-18 cars do not do that. Its a calibration change that was made.

My 2017 does it, as did my 2010 SS and 2013 ZL1

Satinsteel and 2SS Capt,

Thank you for specifying the year. I previously owned a 2018 SS 1LE that did NOT burble at all. I thought I was going crazy. I figured it was just tuned to run rich but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks all.

Odd that is was added to the 2019 tune as posted by others. Maybe its an LT4 engine thing. My 2016 SS M6 has had the decel burble and pop ever since the day I got it back in March of 2016. I like it!

Exactly, the tune was changed in 2019 to greatly increase the snap, crackle and pops...

Fair enough. Thanks for the details. I have not ridden or driven a Camaro 2019 or newer.

My 17 has always done the burbles and pops, even when the calibration was all OE.

I'd have to go back and compare a 17 to a 19 all factory calibration, but I'd be willing to bet they are the same.
