ZL1 Crash
Hey guys. If you check my posts, you’ll see I hit a deer the day I got my 2019 SS. Well, I got it back, then traded it (fearing loss of value.) Lost nothing on the car, got into a 2021 10 speed ZL1, and then the day after I got that one I spun out and crashed. I just got the car back (before and after attached) and have already put another 1600 miles on it. I love it, and am learning how to manage the power (it’s my daily.) Out of curiosity, how much will the value decrease? The only damage was the two rear corners, which caused the side airbags to deploy.

I won’t buy cars that show accident history, but others may feel differently.

I’d think the airbags deploying would hurt the value. My wife hit a deer and it didn’t really affect the value much.

I used to be a hard no for cars with accidents, but I've calmed down now and I'm more interested in the nature of the accident(s). Some people don't care just as long has you provide enouph details.

IMO, I believe some of your answer could be in the cost of the repair. Just 2 quarters sounds like nothing more than sheet metal, paint and labor. But the airbag(s) had to replaced too. Did the windshield break as well? Do have more pictures of the exterior damage?
Good that you’re ok and didn’t get hurt.

I used to always ignore cars with accident history but as I've gotten involved in a couple accidents in my life and got more familiar with the repair process it's usually not a big deal. If you can get good information on what was damaged and repaired I wouldn't be too worried.
For example, I have an older 2004 BMW that I rear ended someone at a red light(like an idiot) at 5mph. The guy ahead started moving to do a right hand turn and I looked down at my phone(like an idiot) and he stopped. I ran into his tow hitch and it did no damage to his car. My BMW had damage on the bumper and hood. Replacing the bumper and hood totaled my car, it now has a salvage title but the car is better now than before the accident(new bumper/hood). Someone also hit my Camaro in the rear right wheel and it damaged the subframe and wheel. Insurance repaired the car with a new wheel and new subframe, car is the same as new. |

Value depends on market. There is no one that can answer your question. It depends on the market at the time. The market can change from year to year. Who knows what will happen now with the big push to electric cars. If it the government continues to force electric cars on us then the value of our hot rods will increase. I am putting mine back in show room condition to save it. Will the accident hurt it? Maybe yes maybe not so much. It depends.

I agree as above, I wouldn’t buy a car I knew was in an accident.

I don't think the OP asked if you'd buy a car that was in an accident. I think he asked how much you thought the car would be devalued. Honestly OP, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you plan on hanging onto it. If you are really interested to see what you'd get for it, take it into a dealer and have them give you an offer to buy it. If you are going to sell it private party, you'd be able to get a bit more. It would at least give you an idea.

ZL1 Crash
10-25% of the cost of repair. Air bags deployed will be the big one on CarFax. With it being a sports car it would see a bigger hit.
Was it your fault (sounds like it was)? If not look into “diminished value”. A lot of states insurance will paid for the diminished value of your car. If you were at fault not so much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Repairs always come down to how good the shop is at doing the work they were contracted to do combined with what was "allowed" as part of the repair. For a car like this, where it's sort of "expected" that it gets driven a bit harder, knowing it was crashed and repaired is probably going to have a noticeable impact on the value. The best thing to do would be to go get a couple of sale/trade appraisals right away and ask for line items to be included to show any depreciated value amount for the repair. The, go to the insurance company and request that amount in cash. Move on... |
