Why all the Flowmaster hate?

Every time I read something or watch a video and Flowmaster exhaust is mentioned they get tons of hate. Just watched last rpm video and they make jokes all the time like he lost 10 hp by using Flowmasters.

Is there any truth to this? I know they drone (mine does) but I love their sound. It’s a true old school muscle car sound that I can’t find with any other companies.

The drone is probably the main contributor to the hate. Honestly don’t care what others think is “cool” or “crap” for a car. You do what works for you and fits your budget and don’t let the haters get under your skin.

Meh, people love to bitch, and they love to hate on what's popular. There was a time when it seemed like everyone was running a Flowmaster muffler on their car or truck because they sounded so good, and also because they were easy to find and inexpensive. But then it got to a point where everyone's ride sounded the same.

I love my Flowmasters and have only gotten positive comments on them. Flowmasters almost always sound great from the outside. But they really need to update their product line and maybe try and innovate some. I have seen little to no technology to help reduce or eliminate drone, which their exhaust systems greatly suffer from. They don't call them 'DroneMasters' for nothing! But I have tolerated it because they sound so damned good.

As for actual flow? I have never had an issue with FMs not flowing well. That goes for their 2 and 3 chamber mufflers, as well as my nearly straight through FM Outlaw mufflers. Most issues with exhaust flow could probably be avoided by doing a little research and taking the time to properly match the muffler and exhaust type/size with your power level.

All that said, I still stick with my first point.

Ah good old tinnitus, it can drive you crazy at times. Mine isn't from loud noise, but from chemo. Listening to music helps cancel mine out, but it's still there 24/7.

When you guys talk about drone, are you talking about the sound the l99 makes when it goes in the 4 cylinder mode or something else?

Loved my flow master super 40s paired up with a cat back when I had my G8. I then went FBO set up with Super 10s, and it sounded like shit. Needs to be the right set up or it’ll sound raspy.

I agree with everyone itt. I have always had flowmasters because I love the sound. The drone really Isent that bad and tolerable. I do get a lot of complaints on the sound, I wish one day I can hear it myself from the outside. My wife is scared to drive it and have been trying to make her do a drive by so I can hear it lol.

There was a time they were calling them Slowmasters reportedly because they hurt performance. I had them on and the car ran great.

Is there any proof to that? That’s what I’m wondering

I think the hate came from their original designed chambered mufflers. They sounded good on an otherwise stock setup but was not idea from a performance standpoint (restrictive).

Flowmaster does have straight though muffler options now though.
