Winter driving

Who else is in a snowy climate and drives their 2.0T throughout the winter? Had my first real test today on the way home from work. No snow tires, no sand bags in back...just the stock 18" all-seasons. She handled beautifully. The Stabilitrak really does a fantastic job of keeping the back end in line.

We got about 6" of snow here in Michigan today, and I was surprised how well my 18 V6 did, even with the 20" wheels and low profile tires. Definitely going with some Blizzaks on my 18's though. From what I've heard Buffalo gets a lot of snow as well. I'd definitely invest in some winter tires being where you're at

They put too much rocks and salt on the roads here that I store it for the winter. Too bad I'd love to try it in the snow!

I tucked mine away in the barn... cat jumped on it and tried to hang on the front fender, failed and scratched it. Lol at least it's black and easy to wax/buff. That was day 1 lol

A good set of winter tires even a mediocre set will be more then enough I've gone 3 winters going on 4 this year with zero issues. I even got stuck going around a car that couldn't make it up a steep hill and was sliding slowly backwards from a dead stop on the same incline. Weight in the rear isn't needed if you keep a full tank of gas but throwing some emergency traction aid in the back couldn't hurt and it's good to help the less fortunate given the chance.

nice. thanks. I just put my oem eagle sportd back on, debating on the rear snows. on the coast its a little less snowy, more like slushy. looking into a cheaper set of rubbers.

Got 10” of snow and this morning the roads had 3-4” of slop in them. She handled just fine on the stock 18” all-seasons.

Prettiest car at the office today (well, most days, but especially today).

They salt like hell here, as well, but I just don't have the space currently for a second car (or the funds, really). Hopefully next season.

sorry to interrupt the thread, but for some reason Red Hot just looks really good against the snow white background in that picture

My camaro is my daily driver, and where I am I dont get tons and tons of snow, but a decent amount of slush and ice...i have the cheapest winter tires and rims money could buy (sailuns i think) and it drives like a champ. Way better than my old pickup, and better than my older diesel jetta.

Only complaint is every now and then i try to spin the ass end out...you know, for...tactical parking...
Anyway if i dont remember to put the drive mode in sport, stabilitrack flatout wont let me do it. Stops the throttle.

Awesome system, im pretty happy with it

Been winter driving 6MT ATS for 3 years now. PS-AS/3s are my goto tire but running 245/40-17s with the way I drive is getting expensive and invariably I end up going into the winter with bald back tires.

I got a full set of Sumitomo snow tires this year in the stick 225/45-17 and they only trump the AS-3s in deep slush and maybe lateral grip, both of which are probably thanks to the extreme tread depth.

The AS/3s fall off pretty badly towards the end of tread like but they absolutely crush the sumitomos in the wet.

Also, I attempted a spirited run a few days ago and managed to overheat the sumitomos (couple 100+>35 sections of S curve) in high 20 degree weather. Very lively for a minute or two until they cooled back down. I should probably check the speed rating...
