Can you hear your e-brake engaging?

Can you hear your e-brake engaging? I never do...it's silent on my car--or not working.

No noise at all when engaging the e-brake. Total silence. If I forget to engage it before I shut down the engine...after car is off but all electrical systems still powered, I'll mute the stereo audio so it's totally quiet in my garage and pull the e-brake button up...the orange parking brake light appears in my dash (so it looks like it is working), but I have no confidence that it is actually holding my car in place.

Also, when parked on any level of grade, after I hit the e-brake and then lift my foot from the main brakes, the car feels like it settles back on the transmission (not a good feeling).

Does anyone else have the same issue, or do you get definitive feedback when the e-brake /parking brake engages?

I don't hear it on this car, but on my 13 Regal GS, I can hear it. And yes on both cars, on a hill if I let my foot off the brake after the ebrake the car does settle back.

I hear the sound slightly when the brake engages. Switch in “N” and than engage the brake. Step out of the stand try to move it forward or backwards. If the car moves a bit on a slope that is normal.

I definitely hear it on my 16 2SS. I don't trust these electronic ebrakes so I always leave it in gear.

Mine is a m6 and I hear nothing when I engage and disengage. I know it works as I sometimes forget to disengage when I reverse out of the garage and the brakes are set when the clutch engages. I get warning tones and message on the dash plus I can feel the brakes are locked.

I can easily hear it on my 2LT.

The LT and SS use different rear calipers and parking brake setup, so you might get some variation in how much different people hear - but I can't imagine not hearing anything. Even with the door closed and the radio on a reasonable level I can hear the system engaging or disengaging in addition to feeling it in my foot.

I hear it.

But if you're not sure after you shut the car off, like someone mentioned already, put it in neutral and try pushing it. Do this for a few drive cycles, and if all is well, you can trust that it's doing it even if it's silent.
