It was more than an appearance package.
If you recall, the 5th gen SS was chastised for understeer, pushing, unresponsive steering, and uncommunicative steering (among other things). The 1LE fixed ALL of that. So it was a big deal.

This is what the 5th gen 1LE came with for only $3500. Upgraded TR6060 6-speed manual, quicker steering box, transmission cooler, larger front and rear sway bars, ZL1 end links, ZL1 rear shock mounts, ZL1-style 20×10 and 20×11 wheels with Goodyear Eagle SuperCar tires in 285/35/20 size, upgraded brakes, plus a set of 3.91 gears sat out back. It also featured a matte black hood wrap, along with a suede wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. |

The 1LE package completely changes the feel of the car. It made the SS actually enjoyable on the street. When I drove an SS before the 1LE package, I didn't like the way it felt at all. After driving a 1LE, I knew I needed one. I suggest you try one. And I think it makes the car look badass.

LOL at appearance package.
If it upgrades the SS like the 5th gen, then this should be awesome. Can't wait for this car! |

From a marketing perspective the 1LE was marketed after the ZL1 was launched as an upgrade to get most of what makes the ZL1 better on the track but at a lower cost. I can't help but wonder if the lack of an obvious need for better suspension on the 6th gen, and the ZL1 still unavailable as a "compare to", might reduce the urgency to launch a 1LE-like upgrade package before the Zxx? |

The 1LE version will be a LOT better than the SS.

Oh I agree with you. I'm just wondering about the timing strategy of its release. We know a Zxx is coming, and the assumption that a 1LE upgrade package is coming is held by many, but if you were Chevy, which would you release first? I was just trying to use what we do know to judge the likelihood that a 1LE package will be the next big reveal in Chicago.

I'll wait for the ZL1.
Upgraded suspension, fairings and whatever else just doesn't do it for me. Gotta have the HP bump to boot. If they did that, I might be interested and it would be a cool to have a performance package (with the increased horsepower) that filled that gap between the SS and ZL1. But... they won't so .. |

I'm not sure how they could upgrade the suspension - the mag ride in my SS is pretty solid. I guess there's always room for improvement....but not $3500 worth
