To Craig, go ahead and void your warranty then! It’s your choice and good luck!

How do people feel about swapping out the oil pump preventatively to the newest model? How much is the cost to swap oil pumps?

I'd say it's a good idea. Last time I looked there were thirty something failures reported on the pump failure thread. That's not insignificant given that it only considers cars owned by forum members. Unfortunately, it's a pain to swap out the pump with the motor in the car. I don't think there's enough clearance to do it without dropping the pan.

If you have some miles on the car and the oil pressure is good I wouldn't worry about blowing your motor.

My car has about 6500km (almost 4000miles) on it now, No issues so far, Only mods are Soler 91mm TB and TC, Roto-Fab CAI, Corsa Xtreme+ Catback.

No dealer or Service Manager is going to value your relationship over that of GM corporate and RISK lying to the Reginal rep by flashing your ECU then lying and saying it was never tuned. Does not matter how close you are

I had them replace my oil pump while the engine was out doing a cam swap... call me paranoid! Went with the "newer" GM pump. So far so good!!

So what power gains could one see with just a tune?

For me, drive-ability (M6) and more power would be a nice.

A good tuner would work on your driver demand tables to improve M6 driveability (I know I do). Stock car with tune will make more power but your but dyno won't really register it.

You can see the areas that I have pulled out some torque at low speeds under medium throttle inputs. This helps me on my M6 car with big cam to get a lot of driveability back. My car is very responsive down there and make a ton of torque and would easily get jerky over bumps in 1st or 2nd due to minor throttle pedal inputs. Now it no longer does that. First picture is a delta from my car to stock ZL1, second picture is my DD table now, third is stock ZL1 DD table.

Honestly if you can't afford a 8500 block and 3k to have a shop R&R the motor you do not need to mod anything if your worried about a warranty.

Its that easy...

A tune alone is not a cost effective mod. For the very modest HP gain you lose your power train warranty and will have to re tune if mods (headers, pulley, cam, etc) are added. You have 650 from the get go, a tune alone wont improve that much.

Perhaps, with an M6, you might be able to improve drivability (the bog), but GM tuned the LT4 to run on 93, so the spark is already near the limit of that octane. The intake flows reasonably well for the rated power. Unless you make improvements on the airflow side, you won't get much, in terms of power, over the OEM file.

Tuned

I put a CAI, long tube headers, full flow cats and a nice non crushed mid pipe into the factory mufflers and converted to E85. I have 625RWHP and 586 ft/lbs torque its a blast to drive and the e85 is cheap to fill up but she does drink more. I have friends that have many miles on their cars with exactly this set up. This is a pretty mild mod and she runs great. Just Saying. Yes she has been dyno tuned. Costs money to go fast.
