What tires on dyno?

I just had a Magnuson 2650 installed with the California CARB tune which leaves a lot to be desired. I'm taking it in a couple of weeks to get dyno tuned at a local shop. I have the OEM tires as well as Pilot Sport 4s both on stock wheels. Which would you suggest I use on the dyno? Or does it even matter? Thanks for any help!

Nothing to offer here but can't wait to see the numbers.

I assume you will have to switch back to the carb tune come smog time?

As long as you don't use a drag radial on a dyno, you will be fine. I would have it tuned with whatever setup you plan on using on the car. My car was dyno'd with PS4S's.

I'd use whatever tires I do the most driving on, and that's even if I have track tires.

Either of those tires should produce equivalent #s, go with the ones you plan on driving on. DR will reduce #s on dyno, nothing you are using would do that.

Yes the dyno shop will be saving the CARB tune and I can switch back to it when it comes time to smog in 6 years

Thanks everyone for the responses, I'll probably go with the stock tires than since that's what i'll be using mostly in the summer time.

interested in what your car will put down!!

Were are you in CA? I am waiting until my powertrain warranty is up and the CARB finally issues the CARB EO for the kit. under a year left go go.

will be doing lots of HPDEs though (first one with the car in two weeks) so I want to find a good tuner who can tune partial throttle, etc well. curious what your experience will be with this setup!

Thanks,

I believe many people have run the stock tires at this power level. If nothing else, the shop could add VHT or something on the rollers to help with traction.

Any tires but drag radials. Drag radials will produce lower numbers.

Thanks,
I’ll post up what my final numbers are and all the modifications for the California peeps that are interested. I’m going for what radz has going since his car from what I believe is a monster. The CARB tune as you may already know leaves a lot to be desired in the 2650, it’s still an unbelievable upgrade with the CARB tune, but I feel like I’m missing “something” by not having a tune that utilizes all of the horsepower that may be available. After i get it dynoed and tuned, I’m going to learn how to drive it again, and than go with a bigger snout and throttle body, and than learn how to drive it……again…..haha

The frustrating part is not knowing how the carb tune will be acceptable when the state of CA has an inane new smog statue that ANY tune will be an auto fail.

I've still got to speak to my smog guy on this. But then again we have years to go to worry about it.
