Cargo carrier for race wheels/tires?

I've pondered a tire trailer, and for various reasons it would be nice if I could avoid having to buy/build one. I was looking at a few Class I cargo carriers, and they might work. With a Class I hitch, it would be limited to 200lb (including the weight of the carrier itself). But one wheel/tire could go in the trunk and then the other three could strap to the carrier. Anyone ever tried this on a 5th- or 6th-gen Camaro?

I've been thinking about this for a long time too, but someone on here told me that with a rear seat delete you can fit (4) 305s in the car no problem. I think that will be the route i try this year.

That could be true. I need to keep my rear seat in place since I'm going to run Street class.

Maybe you can put the rear seat in the passenger footwell/seat area and replace it after removing the wheels from the back seat area at the event?

You can fit four 305's without a rear seat delete. Just throw one in the passenger seat if you can't fit them in the back.

I wouldn't put that kind of weight on a carrier, 200lbs right at the interface is one thing, but carrying tires and wheels in a basket further back is another, way more leverage. With a small trailer, that weight would be supported by the trailer wheels.

Exactly what I was thinking. That does not look safe.

5th Gen ZL1 yes. It works fine. I could put 3 tire/wheel combos on the carrier in your first post. The load rite hitch wasn't a difficult install. It attaches to the rear bumper struts.

That's been my concern, too, TBH.

The Leroy Engineering trailers are probably your best option. It's what I would go with if I had a place to leave a trailer.

+1 on the Leroy trailers. I went with the Paddock for up to 335 wheels. Can get a hidden hitch from Leroy as well. Best quality for the money for sure
