I never leave my car with a dealer. I wait there until they finish the work.

Isn't it ironic that when you go test drive something at one of these dealers, they only allow you to go around the block putting at best 2-5 miles on the vehicle. Yet, when these sleezy dealership techs drive your car after servicing it, they always have to put 10-20+ miles on it.

I call BS on the whole thing. Either go around the block like I have to when test driving, or let me take a 10-20+ mile test drive. Oh, and I want to go alone like they do and if I happen to get hungry, I want to go in a drive thru to get something to eat like that guy did.

This is why I never bring my vehicles in to the dealership for service, even recall work. I'd rather fix it myself.

I'm surprised how many comments on the Facebook reposts of this incident are in support of the tech's actions.

You don't leave your kids alone at the doctors office, you shouldn't leave a limited edition Camaro alone at the dealership!!

With what possible reasoning?

Told this before... I was walking around the auto mall when I saw my Camaro whiz by on a "test drive" because they replaced the outside temperature thermometer. (that still doesn't work right)

"Techs always have to test drive the car before and after to see if there's any noises that the customer will blame the tech for."

"sometimes we have to take cars out for 30 to 60 minutes to repeat a problem and we might stop for something to eat."

One tech even tried to wrap the justification into being a flat rate tech somehow... (???)

Seen others where they're just like, "Who cares, my mechanic drives my car"

Yet nobody has been able to tell me how diagnostics can be performed on an A/C issue during a road test while driving fast with the stereo cranked or how to justify this as legitimate diagnostic procedure.

F'ing morons.

I was at a well known garage getting an oil change once back 17 years ago. At the time I had a new mustang GT. As I was waiting for the service to be performed, I heard a burnout. I walked outside just out of curiosity and the tech did the burnout in my car. Some of the other techs were standing by smiling and watching. I unloaded on them and got a free oil change.

Anyone who justifies that type of behavior prolly owns a pos beater and just doesn't give a sh*t about anyone else having a nice car. I can tell you that if that were MY car, they'd be getting a very unpleasant call from an attorney real quick like.

Exactly. Test drive for an oil change and an A/C leak???

Many, many years ago, like before I was old enough to drive, my Dad had to have some cowl repair done (rusted out) by a shop a couple of towns over. Imagine my surprise at seeing Dad's car parked in the center of the town we lived in - this being several days after putting it in the shop - likely being used to chase parts for other jobs. Kind of wish I'd heard the ensuing conversation between my Dad and the shop, the actual job was rapidly completed, like expedited.
